[#10120802]

I have a memory like a goldfish.i converted my aeris to 11sp and fitted an xd driver, in a bit of a hurry, about a year ago.

i remember something about an extra washer/spacer. for the life of me i cannot remember if this is xd fit only (and it is in the jub now) or it's shimano fit only (so i've lost it)

confusingly the hope website doesnt make it clear, that i can find

Anyone know for sure? And if i have lost it, where does one purchase a replacement as some driveline jiggery pokery may be happening soon.

im also confused about the 11speed shimano freehub - i thought shimano 11sp fitted on a normal shimano freehub, unless thats 11sp road or something.

You will need to provide more details on the jiggery pokery...

XDย  freehubs/cassettes don't use spacers.

The Shimano freehub on Pro 4s is 11 speed road-compatible (slightly wider), which means in order to fit an 11 speed MTN cassete you will need a 2mm-ish spacer. You should get away with any spacer you have in the spares box (i.e. from an old worn out cassette), as long as its 1.85-2mm wide.

The shimano freehub is designed to take a road 11 speed cassette, which is a midges' wider than an mtb one, hence the spacer behind any 8 to 11 speed mtb cassette.

Oh, that's supposed to be there regardless of the freehub type; you'd have noticed by now if it was missing :).

Spacer on the axle between the freehub and the hub is the same, drive side endcap is XD specific.

A Shimano MTB 11 speed cassette fits on a standard 8/9/10 speed freehub so when fitted to a 11 speed freehub will need a 1.85mm spacer. Shimano 11 speed road cassettes need an 11 speed freehub (generally).

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for your email.

The Pro 4 Shimano and XD hubs use the same spacers and endcaps, the only difference is the freehub body itself.

Drive side spacers are silver, Non drive side are black.

All the exploded views are on the Tech documents page on the link below.

Kind Regards,

Bigyan's mention of the DS cap being XD-specific goes back to the Pro 2 hubs, where the only difference between the two was a lip that was preventing the cap from being fitted through the "lockring" of an XD cassette. Probably Hope realized the lip wasn't doing much in terms of sealing and the Pro 4s are only shipped with the "XD" cap.
