When booking the ppds I saw mention of a Doctor's note. What do you need? I read that a provisional race licence from British cycling could suffice, is that a web myth? Anyone able to clarify?
Indeed, I've still got the same query for Megavalanche.
I've bought a BC silver membership with provisional race license, but can't find any definite confirmation of whether this is acceptable
Done the PPDS twice (including last year) and there has never been any mention of a doctor's note or race licence when over there.
It's not a race anyway.
You theoretically (though not in practice) need a passport for the border crossing, but no race licence etc last year.

Was fine for me in 07 and 08.
The formalities consist of:
1. queuing up to collect you race-pack
2. showing them your confirmation e-mail when you get to the front of the queue
3. The nice lady handing over your race pack with your number in it.
And thats it..... never heard of any doctors note or similar.
lots of travel insurance policies exclude competitions..... we checked with the organisers last year - it's not classified as a race.
how the **** would it be a race?
everyone starts at a different point, and finishes at a different point, and there are no timing chips.

alright dear, no need to get agitated.
and there are no timing chips
which you don't know if you haven't done it before....
thanks for your helpful replies.
Don't forget to get your European Health Insurance Card
while everyone seems to be getting their knickers in a twist I went and read the regulations on the website ๐
Its says:
- The organiser strongly recommends that every participant obtains a medical certificate indicating they are fit for riding in the mountains
It's an insurance A.C.D. (think about it) statement giving their insurance provider a get out clause should you decide to set off round with a broken arm and then try and claim against them.
There's no requirement, unlike some races (like the Mega) where it is.
edit: OP, you've nicked my initials, J! :D
not overly agitated just funny to sign up to an event and not be sure if its a race!
I know nobody treats it as a race, but I'm sure that an insurance company would try to argue that it was in some way competative, in order for them to wriggle out of a French hospital bill! Last year (our first year) we just got confirmation that ther wasn't a competative element.
how the **** would it be a race?
...except it used to be a race, originally called the Freeraid. I've still got my "Raid D'Or Diplome de Free Raideur" certificate in my bike memorabilia drawer from about 2001.

Ha. ๐ I can just picture it labelled as such with a dymo label?

As an aside, Snowcard (insurance people) state that to be covered for it you need to take out their 'MTB - track and trails competition' policy.
