When sending a small parcel the sixe limits are 45cm x 35cm x 8cm. A few of the PO's around here use a carboard box (printed up from Royal Mail) to check the size of parcels. Beware this box is not the same dimensions as above, it is actually smaller.

Had a disagreement with the PO today as they wouldn't send a parcel for that reason, even when I pointed our the size measurements on their website and instore leaflet!

With this and the pressurised contents fuss, it sounds as if they've had some problems with the piles of garbage being sold all over the country by Ebayers. The flippin' PO is always full of ghastly women posting dozens of identical packages wrapped in polythene when I go down there.

They refused to take it as small parcel. Ended up going to another PO (other end of town)and they accepted it no problems as the person on the till knew the guidlines.

Just find it odd that the box is smaller than the guidlines. Seems a scam to me!

Some post offices are rigid and others turn a slight blind eye. It probably is a scam beacause the next one up is a meduim parcel and the price jumps up quite a bit.

Sounds like Ryanair and their hand baggage restrictions.

Best not to listen to the radio today then, they are talking about royal mail being privatised and how bad it is going to get. Along with the fact that the shares were £700 million undervalued so the taxpayers got a very bad deal....again.

I don't get the whole share issue thing. The fact that they were 'undervalued' has only put money into peoples pockets who purchased the shares, which would have instead gone to the government. What more to people want?

Anyway, im not going to lose sleep over it.

Could be wrong, but did they not increase the size of small packet just before christmas? So maybe the template is the old small packet.

It took something that was partly mine, and sold it to someone else, for less than it was worth. The money doesn't go to "the government", it goes to the country. Simple as that.

Because the government would have an extra £700,000,000 to spend on schools, hospitals, policing, fire service and duck ponds,

You had shares in Royal Mail before the privatisation?

Twoniner hits the nail on the head, and it all depends on what PO you go to,for example my post office has undergone a refurbishment lately and the charge more than any other in the area since,I think it's up to the staffs discretion.

I looked at the RM deal as a tax rebate.

They didn't like it when I asked them to take the leaflets off the counter which had the RM parcel dimensions on it!

Wifey was an old battle axe as well which made it worse!

Oh? I didn't have a share certificate.

On the bright side, that liability that you owned is now exchanged for a big pile of tenners, a portion of which you now own. Hope there's not too much QE/devaluation to make them more worthless than RM share certificates 😉

Another thing to remember when sending ANYTHING royal Mail is this:
If you are sending insured mail, and the the address you are sending it to is a business one (IE: to a work place) the address HAS to be registered with RM or the parcel is NOT guaranteed.

You'll have to phone them and have the address registered in advance. Takes about two weeks to got on the list. Until then, you're not covered.

INcreasingly shonky and poor terms and conditions.
