Hi wanting to buy a hope hed doctor to add a little bling to my bike and something a little better than i already have as i keep having to tighten it up.

but i currently have a x star type fitting how can i remove this with damaging the fitting or the folks..

push it down and through with a long screwdriver or similar

Dont bother. It wont do anything but add faf and waste money.

The Star nut just tightens the stem onto the fork so you can get the whole fork asembly tight enough to stop any wobble but not too tight to bind the bearings. Once done you then clamp to the fork with the stem bolts. Once they are tight you dont need to have the star nut tight anymore. It does not hold the stem to the fork.

If you keep having to tighten yours up something is wrong. You may have plastic spacers that are being squashed - swop them for aluminium ones.

never seen a plastic spacer compress tho.

Hope Head Doctors are a good idea but I think that:

A) They're easy to get wrong - loads of posters moaned about them on here (STW).

B) They are no where near as light as a star fangled washer/nut?

The only 'upgrade' you'll get is colour choice and a 'HOPE' badge. All of that said, I only use Hope parts where they are available and I love them, I've got three Head Doctors, ner ner ๐Ÿ˜‰
