Not that i'd ever consider riding somewhere cheeky (as the Vanoise is), but if, in some alternate universe, I were to go completely out of season when there's nobody there except me and a few goats anyway, what is the place like and in particular can anyone recommend accommodation, a guidebook and most importantly routes and places to [definitely not] ride?
Thanks
Also details of how to get there would be much appreciated. I guess you use a car. But the main query relates to the [completely hypothetical] riding options.
fantastic little village.
immensly steep hillsides.
in a no riding national park.
take your walking boots.

Head to Moutiers and go right. Though it would be better to take the left and head up the Isere valley if you want to ride your bike.
There is a nice, if a little short, via ferrata just before Pralognan in Bozel
Mmmm riding in a national park isn't cool I guess - though it would be severely out of season.
Interested to hear more about the walking then
Spent a week there several summers ago - beautiful place. Walking is excellent but fairly hardcore - glaciers high up and no camping/biking. Similar but nicer (imo) is further south in the Queyras. Google Ceillac. Very unspoilt part of the Alps if walking is what you're looking for.
I think it was there that I did the hiking route GR5/55.
Was ****in steep! Great scenery on t'other side of L'Col De La Vanoise (spelling...) Definitely not really suitable for cycling really.
slightly back down the valley
Roche de Mio to Champagny looks pretty epic..
