Convince me or otherwise...

Its either one of the aforementioned (or another 'cross bike) or a Ribble Sportive Racing, I keep chopping and changing...

Unless you're sure you want to take it off road, go for a road bike.

That's really my dilemna, do I just get a 'better' road bike or do I 'open up a new world of possibilities' with a cross bike? But maybe that new world is already opened up by the mountain bikes? Looking at doing more sportives this year too though, so a nice sleek carbon speed machine would also be nice.

Think you've answered your own question there.

The Ribble Sportive does look the business- apart from having Ribble in large letters on it.

better than Boardman though surely??
That's the sort of price range I'm looking at. Considered the Planet X, great spec but some doubts expressed about the frame - a little too flexy, especially for a big guy (15 stone) like me.

Got the Ribble sportive Racing about 3 months ago and highly recommend it.

Very smooth and fast, bought to do RAB this year and can't wait. Also I think you'll find its even nicer in the flesh, lovely carbon weave etc.
