Seems funny to have a medium and Large not on an average 56cm type size.
At 178cm or 5' 10" i appear to be in the middle of the two - do you have one - what size are you riding and how tall are you. Just as a rough idea.
Im contemplating a Medium and i can always increase 10mm on stem length or get a more layback post - whereas with the L is always harder to bring things down a size.
Im 6'2" and ride the X large. I have long legs and a short torso I guess cos I run a 110mm stem and inline seat post but have my seat pretty high.
This is why you should go for a bike fit really.
I am 5'9", and bought a medium. After having a go on my mates large, I wish I had bought a large. They are quite small...
Im in Northumberland and wont be passing anytime soon with the chance of a 2nd hand frame. If anyone has one in North East would you mind if I swing my leg over yours (sounds dodgy eh)
They are quite small...
What do you mean by that? Im guessing you mean the seat tube?
I think the XL only has a 570mm ST and a 590mm TT. Ideally I'd have the XL seat tube with the L top tube.
Just that it seems small. When I get home, I'll take a picture of it against my other 'medium' bikes - there is quite a bit more standover...
I still don't know why so many folk size road bikes off seat tube length rather than top tube & take account of the seat angle.
I'm a bit taller than you, and based on my current 56cm Focus, I'd be spot on on a Medium SL Pro. I have slightly long legs for my height, but given you're a tad shorter, I'd lean towards a Medium. As you say, it's easier to get a fit on a slightly small frame than a slightly large. I used to have a 58cm Cayo, and it was too big. I could get it too fit with a shorter stem and inline seatpost, but the handling was nothing like as good as the 56cm is now.
If you have a not very flexible back, ignore all the above and get a large with a short stem, so that you benefit from the extra height on the headtube.
5'11" here on a large with a 100mm stem & layback seatpost, & a few spacers under the stem.
My other half is 5'8" on a medium with an 80mm stem.
A medium would be far too small for me.
5' 10" and ride medium, really nice ride and feels very comfortable. I have kept the bike std from purchase and it just rides really well.
For the money you can't go wrong.
Give them a ring, they are helpful and will probably recommend the medium as they did for me.
For what it is worth, 29" inside leg.
5' 9 & 1/2" average build and have a medium sl pro. 120mm x 10 degree rise stem with 30mm of spacers underneath, shallow drop compact bars, inline seatpost. its right for me but i like a fairly high bar position (old and not very flexible). i'd say you want a medium.
No matter which one you go for you'll be thinking that you should have bought the other. I'm 5'11" and went for a large; I find the top tube a bit of a stretch though. Looking at swapping out to a
Medium shortly.
For what its worth Im 6'1" with 31" inside leg, long torso short legs and ride the large version with 110mm stem.
I find it very comfy but they sure do 'look' compact. I would look rediculous on the medium size, not sure I look any good on the large!.
Thanks for the advice sure sounds like I need a M. Now to find one.
5'9 on a medium here too.
I had to get a tape measure out when I first looked at it thinking they'd sent me a small.
Fits me fine though ๐
Carbon or Seanoc - if you have/ buy a large and it doesn't fit, I'll swap it for the medium I have in black. I'm six foot, thought I fitted the medium when I tried it on a turbo, but then I learnt how to sit on a road bike and realised it was too small.
Every manufacturer is different.
Thought I found the perfect frame and bah the sizing was too big/small.
Planet X sizes(road frames) have nigh on perfect (6ft1 Large Nano) but can see someone 5ft 10 struggling.
