Time to replace my pivot bearings on my Giant Anthem 29er. I have previously used a wooden mallet and drift for extraction and bolts & washers for pressing the new ones, rough but worked. Any suggestions of a cheap pivot bearing extractor/install tool ?

Sliding hammer for all bearing removals, pick them up cheap on ebay, installation, you can go pro and get the CNC'd stuff from RRP, or again hit ebay and get a threaded bar, nuts and some sized washers!

I have some bearing pro tools which are good. I also have some RRP drifts, which are also good. I splashed out on the BSC tools press which is also good.

Wish I hadn't bodged sockets and washers for so long.

Think there's a specific giant kit in a wooden box that some on here have used from memory?

Giant Kit in a box is pretty useful, on the new models you have to be a bit creative.

I have the RRP kit and buy the adapters when needed.

Cheap way is to put a shout out where you are and see if anyone is up for lending their kit.

I have the RRP stuff, with most of the normal removal/installation sets, also have the slide hammer, also have a giant reign and can understand the horror you are about to feel when you start unbolting it and try to get those bloody spacers back in!

ive got custom made bits (like the rrp stuff, the bearing tools and lots of other bits.

the presses are all similar imo. The pressing them out is where they come in really handy. I actually prefer the expanding bolt to the rrp style now as ive got a carbon frame and i worry about the extractor clamping against it.

Got a sliding hammer jobby from ebay recently and ordered the set I needed from bearing pro tools to do my Hightower. Easy peasy squeezy lemons!

I too have the correct bearing kit.
It makes you feel like James May when you are doing the job as everything fits perfectly.
I'm no longer bearing phobic and happily ride my anthem through the worst winter gloop.

Hi - I'm in Tooting Bec, London. If anyone is up for renting me a kit for a few days that would be great. Happy to cover postage costs and a rental cost.

Not Giant-specific, but I’m waiting on these to do my HB:

Teethgrinder, can you let me know how that set is please? I have looked at it a few times from aliexpress, seems good for about 50 euros delivered.

I bought something very similar to that puller set. The puller that fitted the bearings broke so the whole thing is basically useless
I did find on eBay braeveiw engineering and got their blind pullers and a press with the correct sized bits.
Brilliant and really good value, it’s made the job so easy now!

@andykentos I have that slide hammer kit. The bigger pullers may be ok but I only tried the small ones on my old stumpy for the blind bearings and they were too soft to grip it properly. Also the slide hammer is a bit unwieldly for working on bike frames in my opinion. Too big and numb to be able to judge whether you may be damaging the frame...........but thats just me all over 🙂
