When I lift the front end of my bike there's a slight knock as the forks extend and tops out. Only slight, but someone told me this isn't right. Can anyone shed any light on it? Forks are 5 months old, 140mm, the posh version (RCT3 Solo air), used around 10 hours per week, never been serviced. Ta for any tips.

Probably a vacuum in the lowers or imbalance between + and - air chambers.

Two ways of dealing with the vacuum in the lowers...either a push a cable tie down each dust seal and past the oil seal to allow air in or remove the footnuts and release the lowers, there's no need to completely separate them just enough to break seal and let air in. The important bit is that it needs to be done with the stanchions at full extension.

If the above fails chances are its related to imbalance between + and - chambers caused by a blocked transfer port. If this is the case forks will need stripping and the transfer port cleaning out, reassemble with stanchions fully extended.

It could be low oil in the damper, or a blocked transfer port. Its not unusual for them to have a slight top out knock/dead spot.

Thanks for these replies. Is it likely to be ok to ride again before I investigate? Or could I damage the fork? Supposed to be riding tomorrow but no time to sort it this eve. I'm guessing it's not a warranty issue then, more fix it myself or LBS service (I'm fairly crap at technical stuff like this). Ta again.

After 5 months the fork should still be spot on so I would think about sending it in for warranty.

Thanks again. Think I'll give the importer a call and arrange a warranty check/repair if I can.

I had the same thing. Did a lower leg service and a large volume of oil came out.. Returned for warranty and replaced with a new set within a week.
