I've just swapped the spring in my Pike 454 from the stock medium to an Extra Firm and it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I weigh in at a chubby 18st, but I can't be the only 'clydesdale' running a coil pike surely?

Any assistance would be appreciated (preferably something more immediate than lose 4st - good advice, but it's not going to help the fork tomorrow morning)

I would've suggest 5 or 6 stone, but never mind 😀

How old was the medium spring? Could it have stiffened up after time? Do fork springs do this?

you could try using a heavier weight oil, or ride with the u-turn down which will stiffen the fork up as well, if all else fails i'm looking to swap my dual air 454 pikes for a set of pike coils if you are interested, these can be pumped up to suit any weight

winding down the u-turn doesn't really stiffen the fork, but you're right that air sprung pikes would fit better.

I find the x-firm about right for my 14.5stone weight.

Can't you put a bit of compression on?

Really???

I found when I was pushing 17st, the x-firm was way too firm and gave a harsh ride feel in all honesty.

Tbh, your probably be best off with an air fork as mentioned above ^.

whyter.

(p.s. if anyone needs a new medium weight pike spring then e-mail is in my profile).

Yeah really! I also have a medium and a firm knocking about in the garage. Firm gives about 50% sag when in attack position. I can bottom out the medium by lightly bouncing on the handlebars 🙂

I find the x-firm gives a much plusher ride than the firm, I think mainly because I can run less damping without it getting out of whack when the going gets bumpy.

enduroganster.

If you're interested in swapping your air internals for a medium sprin that's only been used once I'd be interested.

My emails in my profile.
