interesting article on tonights One Show on the BBC about Phytophthora Ramorum disease that is spreading through our forests. Bikers have been requested to wash down bikes before leaving forests to ensure they don't carry spores that would allow the disease to spread. Another good reason to wash your bike.

Shame the hosepipe ban is about to kick in.

Or is that only down here in the [s]desert[/s] South East?

Although it is a good idea to reduce the risk of transportation of spores you cannot discount the fact that these spores can be carried in the wind.
It was the same with the whole foot and mouth debacle where people were asked to wash their boots/car tyres etc when the disease can be spread by the air much more easily than people think!

We've had a forest shut down in Ireland with it, told not to ride in it or risk it spreading. So far so good!
