Very pleased to see this news.

Marvellous. Might have to switch to ITV4 from Eurosport.

Good on her! And very pleased to hear that ITV4 is singing her up.

Millar was a big deal when I started watching the Tour, though only recently read Richard Moore's book and then watched The High Life. Always enjoyed Millar's pieces in cyclingnews too.

As long as the commentary/insight is good that's all that matters.
Brave move though and I wish her the best of luck, having seen the social media backlash directed at Mark Cavendish (I hope your kids get cancer etc) she is going to need a thick skin, the real cycling fans are interested in cycling not gender/identity so hopefully most will welcome the news.

WTF?!

(Edit.. No need to respond and derail an otherwise good news thread, I'll go google.)

Well, that's a bit of an extreme makeover to differentiate yourself from the other Millar commentator!

😉

Inspired me to start taking my cycling more seriously in my teens on the roads around Glasgow. Rumours have abounded for years - delighted that as a society we are far more accepting of people for simply being themselves.

There have been rumours about his for years but Millar denied them (when he commented at all).

Hopefully she's happier now and will not be hounded by the gutter press.

Good to see all the positive comments on the cyclingnews story too.

I've always found her writing on the site very insightful. Good addition.

Always used to enjoy the blogs in cycling news, so much insight (and yes a real favourite rider of mine when I was a kid) so very much looking forward to seeing Phillipa on the tour shows - will she do the live or the highlights show as well? hopefully both

Wtf, Robert Millar is now a woman? Have I woken up in the twilight zone?

Weeksy, have a read of this...

Then go read the book. Then you'll be pretty much up to speed 🙂

This is great news. She should provide some fantastic insights into the mountain stages in particular.

Brilliant. Iirc she has been writing a column for a while but this is way more public profile and a great thing in so many ways

Her blog is the best and most insightful thing on the website. I can't wait to listen to some of the commentary with such a wealth of knowledge. it was her and Greg Lemond that got me in to cycling and so much so that I bought and ex team Z bike in the red blue and yellow colours so that I could pretend to be Robert Millar.

You just need a trip to Laura Ashley now instead 🙂

What, open minded and accepting irrespective of race/gender/religion ?

It is great, but in a proper society shouldn't really be news...

'ITV4 employs knowledgeable commentator'

Really ? You don't see how this is news ? You don't see this as different from just employing say Greg Lemond ? Really ? You can't see this ?

Great stuff, her blog has always been an excellent and insightful read. The guys doing the itv coverage should be a great fit for her and hopefully she'll bed in with them and chip in on the podcast too

Fits the image of road biking perfectly.

It took more guts to do what she did than descending in the peloton at 50mph.

Which is what you mean't of course!

To be honest no idea who she is or was riding wise but you can't do anything but praise the appointment

Well blow me down. I always assumed all that was just "fake news". Fair play to her and to ITV4. RM was probably my first cycling hero too, from the old C4 TDF shows, so looking forward to some insight.

You're so right, cultured, non-judgmental, not stuck in the past, open and accepting. Couldn't have put it better myself.

They don't even allow brake rotors, they're stuck in the 70's

Her occasional cyclingnews blogs have always been excellent, but there haven't been that many. Hopefully this will mean that there are more.

You may want to have a look at yesterday's stage winners brakes before extracting your foot from your mouth.

TBH we knew about this in the 90s, and its a shame that she hasn't felt able to appear publicly.
Anyone remember the Kellogg's Start advert?
