[#9743442]

This may seem like a silly question but i've never had a PF30 standard bike before and wanted to check before i make an error, so here is the question.

Can i just replace my existing crankset with any 73mm crankset?

For info the bike is a 2015 camber evo and it has a PF30 73 x 46mm SRAM crank installed but some time in the future i plan to go 1x with something like a sram XX1 or XT. What i can't get my head around is whether the PF30 bottom bracket that's in there will make it possible to fit any crank - i.e.. is it giving me the same axle diameter? Will i be able to fit any crank be it a shimano/sram/whatever?

You probably need an adaptor like these...

I have the FSA one on my Enduro.

So i will need to buy an adaptor and a bottom bracket? Is there not just a replacement crank that will fit?

Sorry I thought you were asking because you already had a standard 24mm chainset.

You can use a different BB30/PF30 chainset, or just get a narrow-wide ring on your existing chainset.

No problem, the one that's in there came on the bike so it's looking a little bit tatty. There just doesn't seem to be many options out there for replacement PF30 chainsets. What i can't understand is that surely it's just the BB that has to be PF30 specific? Not the chainset. I would have thought that once the BB is in place then it would allow any chainset to be installed, is that not the case?

what is the 24mm you refer to? is it the axle diameter of the chainset?

sorry am totally behind on BB standards...

Yes normal chainsets are 24mm axle diameter, BB/PF30 is 30mm (unsurprisingly).

30mm chainsets seem to cost more new and less secondhand, so maybe check ebay or put a WTD advert up.

Chapking thanks for that, makes a bit more sense now.

So I need a 30mm axle chainset for a 73mm BB shell. Or an adaptor. Cheers!
