Hi All,

Anyone using a Pendle ErgoRack to transport their bike?

https://pbr.co.uk/products/roof-rack

Thoughts? Looks quite a neat design.

No.
But how do you get a through axle in while balancing a bike upright and in just the right orientation?

they seem to what you to fit it (the beam( to the bike before you lift it up on to car and where the brackets stay on your roof bars

Indeed - but that means either balancing the bike onto a narrow (the 'feet' don't look wide' or bike upside down and flip over, then lift up and lock in place.

Or, my Thule 59whatever is lift bike, spin clamp handle, 'zip tie' wheels.

the fairly naff advert popped up on my Youtube. I was kinda intrigued to see what it was all about, by the end of the advert i still wasn't sure what they are selling.

But it does seem an odd 'solution' to a roof mounted bike rack. So rather than sling the bike up and onto a Thule rack (or similar), you have to remove the front wheel, bolt the front fork in place, lift it onto the roof, clamp it to the roof rack mounts, then put your dirty wheel in the boot?

Unless they are ultra cheap (whcih i doubt) EDIT: £199 a pop!. it seems like the long way round to mount your bike on the roof?!

The only advantage is not having to clamp the downtube, although there are racks which just clamp the front wheels these days....

Or am i missing some bit of magic that makes it superior to a Thule (or similar)??

This looks like a bloody terrible product from eveything I could see on their website - they seem to have taken the concept of 'popping your bike on the roof of your car' to a far more complex level.

I don't mind the idea of a fork mount, but having to remove and re-attach half the rack each time you want to use it? I can't see that being easy in a trail centre car park. And while the rear appears to use plastic bolts they also look like the plastic is too small to actually be tightened up enought without eventually breaking... and lets not forget how much grit will get in the threads of those bolts sticking out the top. Move forward and the front is just the classic bolt & allen key - so much for tool free being the future.

Maybe it will get a proper review (not that MBR one...) and we can all hang our heads in shame for our negativety.

I'm assuming that the front retaining bolt needs the rack lifting a few mm to get the bolt in initially. Then tighten with hex.
I'm also assuming that the rear thumbwheel needs removing each time?

Compared with Thule, it just seems poor design, and rather agricultural to say the least.

Looks like you actually remove the rack, load your bike on the ground/bench/wherever then plop the whole load on. Not sold here, but it’s a different approach I suppose

Indeed.
But you also have the equivalent of a through axle to bolt it down....see the pics .

I suppose Pendle is to Thule as Carradice is to Ortlieb.

I was looking at front wheel out racks from Yakima and Thule and those that take thru axle direct without an adapter. Only noticed the Pendle as it will take very long wheelbase (my bike is over 1300mm and the front of their rack is quite far forward…

But other aspects seem a bit under considered now I have had a proper look. Looks like it could be much better with a few changes. £200 (and that is the current offer price) see high.

Ps their video is terrible, hardly shows the product!

Any real life users of this yet?

I'm considering making the big move to bikes ON the car (as opposed to in!) and this one really appeals. I already have very nice slim aero roof bars that stay on the car and a single rack would sit next to my slim roofbox too.

Some of the comments on here are interesting as the things you are picking up on as 'agricultural' or poor are the exact things I think make it look really good. Rather than my expensive bike wobbling all over the shop, clamped by the one bit of the bike NOT designed to be clamped, it puts the load in the place thats supposed to take the load.

so much for tool free being the future

I'd much rather use tools to tighten up nice metallic hardware, than flimsy plastic gears/handles/clamps etc? I'm out for a bike ride, of course I've got a set of Allen keys with me!

I also really like the idea that when not in use, only this bit:

seems to stay on the roof of the car.

Any advances on the above reviews!?
