I've been getting pain on my right foot running round the outside (basically from the little toe along the side of my foot), I've also been getting pain along the outside of my right knee too. I thought I'd got ontop of the knee pain by doing proper stretches but with the foot pain I'm worried if maybe it's got something to do with cleat position.
Any tips on how to rectify this or any fitting places that would be able to solve it (Edinburgh based)
Cheers
spelling fail!
I would prescribe a set of wellgo mags
Nah don't want to go back to flats I wont be able to bunny hop then... (note tongue in cheek applied before some big rant)
new insoles? sort out the cleats? have you changed your saddle?
Specialized do some shoe liners that correct your foot position, my gf got some and seem to have stopped her knee pain (well, she's stop moaning about it!). They measure your foot (a bit like the bum measuring for Spesh saddles) so you know which footbeds you need. I think they can also supply wedges to pack your cleats out which can also help.
On the flip side, you might walk in the shop and they say nope, your feet are fine! You could also try different shoes?
Look up IT band syndrome - see if the stretches for that help.
i get the problem on both bikes, handjob and jake, I have spesh comps atm, considered those insole things but thought it must be cleat problems with it just being specific to one leg
Aye George, I've bin to the physio last year about the knee pain and I try to do the strecthes each time before i ride, but the pain has started coming back

Your legs are always going to be slightly different to each other. Sounds like your cleats could be slightly off, spesh shoes are particularly touchy about position across the shoe(i.e is the cleat in the right place from left to right). The insole thing is very good if you have something "wrong" with your foot. They give you support in the correct spot and make a huge difference. Although if one leg is significantly longer than the other then shimming out the cleat on the short leg could be the answer. It'd be a good idea to go see someone with some background either medical professional who knows cycling or a GOOD bike fitter.
Hope this helps

Mat - what physio did you go to?
Olie - I wondered if it could be something like that, I'll try tweaking the cleat a bit. If it's hurting the outside of my foot I guess I should move them further to the right.
Anyone have any recommendations for fitting in the Burgh? How could I tell if my legs are significantly different lengths?
