[#4806406]

I'm skiving off work this week and thought i'd try a trip to the peaks. I've only been once before on one of the pootles. I don't think i can remember that route off the top of my head, so i'm going to try one of the ones in the PDMB Dark peak book thinking of either of the ladybower routes or the beast route. Bearing in mind the conditions are any of these an ok route or will they be bogfests. If they are can anyone suggest a easy to follow non bogfest route. Thanks

Hi Pook, it was the one around june/july. We parked at Edale and went out via chapel gate (i think). Went down a hill with lots of loose stones a couple of us punctured on that. Think we then ended up in Hope and then further along somebody went off the track and down an embankment and nearly ended in a stream.

I'll have a look for the vid and route when I'm home. I don't think we've been through hope for a while though.

Think I was on that one.

Edale - Chapel Gate - Rushup Road (the road was closed and the bridleway on the Edge was a swamp) Rowter Farm - Pindale - Hope - Edale Road bridleway (forget teh name) - down Jaggers Clough back to Edale & Ramblers for Beer & Cake.

Was that the one?

EDIT: missed Rushup.

Hi Roger, that's the one. Did you have the green bike with the old front suspension design?

Would that route be ok with the current conditions?

It'll all be wet but rideable. The whole Edale-Jacob's Ladder-Hayfield-Roych round is generally reckoned good in all-weather terms, but the only two places that get proper boggy as opposed to gritty and sludgy are the grassy stretch along the top of Rushup Edge and the descent from Whinstone Lee Tor down towards the Ladybower Inn end of things.

Yup - that was me! ๐Ÿ˜€

BWD is spot on - I'd ride back along the road, Rushup Edge will be more wading than riding, especially as the rain is currently hammering down.

Whinstone Lee Tor didn't figure on that ride IIRC so he should be ok if he avoids Rushup (bit of dirty road riding but if you're quick no one will see you )

Thanks for the advice, so skip the ladybower routes. The pootle route should be ok bar rushup which we skipped last time so i don't know it anyway, and when i get to the hope side there may be a small river to pedal up.

The beash route is generally fine in all weathers.Even withe the snow and rain think it should be fine. And its a great route

Just done that route today but started at the sportsman in hayfield, go somewhere else unless there's a big thaw

Took us 5 to push 9 miles for 20mins dh. Still a lot of snow around with 1/2 to 1ft ruts cut into them otherwise it ice. Ice was alright though as we just broke through it.

Mainly it was 1ft snow in 70% of places pitted with footprints & my face

Rush up edge dh rideable but limited line choice
Hayfield campsie dh - sweet! Just perfect, just look out for bloody blind walkers

Still a right good fun though & I'd upload a few pics when my hands warm up again

chapel gate is shut, so technically you can't do the pootle route. Was it this one?

So it's looking like this might not be one of my better ideas.

Pook that's the ride.
