Do I take the easier out of door ride across Riber/Black Rock OR drive 45 mins to Ladybower/Hope and go rockier….??

Thoughts are that with the thaw that the Riber route will be boggy…

Anyone been out to either of these spots to ride today??

Did Ashover/Beeley yesterday and it rode great!

Yesterday would have been fine as still freezing……the big dumping we just had is thawing like mad already and even last weekend that Riber route had boggy section under the snow…..

Any other experiences to help me decide?

Still lots of snow (feet!) around Whinstone Lee Tor end of Ladybower at 3pm today, can’t see it ALL disappearing before tomorrow. I could be wrong though!

FMC – don’t mind the snow around many of the routes round there…..at least it is solid underneath….

Just wanting to see if people have been out and it is ride-able – i.e. you can see the rocks to avoid ‘safely’ etc..

WLT / Derwent Edge would have been pretty much unrideable (we were walking). Didn’t see anyone riding, and for once I was glad I wasn’t! There were a couple of points it was waist deep on the track from the pub up to the top of WLT, very treacherous with the ruts and such.

That said the other side of the valley (Beast / Lockerbrook etc) usually fares better. Take it steady and take pictures 😀

    If I go I will….might end up being a slushy Riber-run….

    Thanks

If the snow is melting, I’d go dark peak. White peak will be a total poo-fest

Did a bit of walking in the Ladybower area and it was hard going. The snow is soft and melting, with some very deep drifts on the trails. Some of the lower, more sheltered tracks should be ok, but anything higher up and exposed will be unrideable. I may do a circuit of Ladybower tomorrow morning, but won’t be venturing up onto the hills.

Well – I can’t confirm what the white peak would have been like….but I can confirm that I should not have bothered with the dark peak 🙂

Parked in Hope. Up the Roman road to Hope cross. This was just about rideable. Last section up to Hope Cross was a river gushing 🙂

From there to potato alley was largely unrideable.

Up to top of Hagg Farm decent. This was rideable as was the Hagg decent – just.

Then hiked the bike back up to Hope Cross up the back of the beast as the path to the big climb to win hill was not rideable.

Best bit of ride was down the previously ridden river gush….and back down the roman road.

Probably lowest grin factor on a ride for some time though.

    Least I got though I guess 🙂
