Hello everyone,
This is my first post in this forum...
I am planning a trip to the peaks in a couple of weeks so am looking for some good challenging x country trails. I'm thinking a big ride ( for me ) on the saturday about 40k and a small one sunday about 20k. We like to do all terrain, the harder the better!!!
Can anyone suggest something? Also we will be camping so if you have any suggestions on that I would be very grateful...
Thanks,
Leigh
First and most important piece of advice is to edit your post and change the reference to 'peaks' to 'Peak' lest you cause serious offence to the many pedants on here.
Two rides to consider are the classic Lady Bower figure of eight and the even more classic Hayfield to Edale and back loop. Both will be easy routes to find information on. For a really long ride, combine elements of the Lady Bower ride with a trek up Cut Gate.

I did one today which was rather nice.
Hayfield, Roych Clough, Rushup Edge, Dirtlow Rake, Pindale, Hope, Roman Road, Hope Cross, Hagg Farm, Lockerbrook, Fairholmes (I was, going to do Whinstone Lee Tor but I wussed out), Yorkshire Bridge, Coppice, Hope Cross, Jaggers Clough, Edale (I then did Mam Nick/ Edale Rd and A roads back to Stockport but otherwise could have been), Barber Booth and then Jacobs Ladder back to Hayfield.
Lol @ geetee1972
buy the Dark peak 'v' graphics book for the long ride.
May I suggest you try a White Peak ride on the Sunday. It mostly limestone based, so in these dry conditions the trails will be great.
'V' graphics also do a White Peak guide book.
Have fun.
Now you see I'd really like to claim that my erroneous reference was a purposeful ploy to prickle the pedants. But as it happens it's just a 'people in glass houses' remark. ๐ณ
BTW - big hug to Bunnygirl. Hope you're well. ๐
I don't normally due the pedants thing (far too tedious) but I couldn't resist this time :-}
Monksie - it was a classy and witty response, for which I salute you.

just joining in ๐
I in turn doff my cap in recognition of your humility :-}
It's just like the old days, this.
You see what I mean! Leigh just get out now while you still can. ๐ฏ
just joining in
Surely that should be, "I'm just joining in."
white peak/dark peak = peaks
pity folk call the lake district "the lakes" there IS only one lake
Any more routes, anyone?
I'm dong a Macclesfield Forest / Goyt Valley convoluted thing tomorrow but it would be hard to follow via my "up there, turn left" route description,
You'll enjoy the Macc Forrest/Goyt Valley ride; it's less popular than the lady smith black mambazo resevoir/Kinder rides and it's great terrain from what i can remember (it was 20 years ago that I last did that ride! It might also be more popular now!)
leigh, email me (email in profile) and i can send you a couple of routes
EDIT: Also, bear in mind the Dark Peak is quite up-and-downy and 40km might feel quite long there depending what you're used to.
Surely that should be, "I'm just joining in."

Leigh feel free to email me too, I have around 40 different routes scanned from various sources I could send you as a zipped pdf
Barber Booth - Jacob's Ladder - Broad Clough - White Brow - Hayfield - Mount Famine - Lord's Seat - Hollins Cross - Blue John Cavern (Hollins to Blue John is a cheeky trail, so push if walkers are about) - Limestone way - Castleton - Wood seats - Hollins Cross - Barber Booth.
40km, 1400hm, a perfect mix of flowy and rocky, technical riding
There's a camp site in Barber Booth and one in Upper Booth, both surrounded by really nice scenery. Haven't used them though so no idea about facilities.
There's around 50 routes in the Peak District listed here...

My personal favourites are the Ladybower Classic and the Kinder Circuit.

Hi Guys, wow I got a lot of replies... thank you all VERY much, If I knew how to edit my title I would!
I will email those of you who offered to send me some routes...
To date my riding has maily been trail centres like Cwm Carn and Afan in Wales. Also the forest of Dean. We did W2 at Afan a couple of weeks ago (44K). It nearly killed me but was a LOT of fun, so I guess this is where my fitness is at!
Thanks again for all the replies, I look forward to joining in with the forum...
Normally I'd say Macc forest but for a change and because its dry - bridleways east of Rowsley / Darley Dale and the Harewood Moor singletrack short but sweet.
