Under your cycling shorts that is...

I was having a chat with my friend after todays ride and she thought it weird that I don't wear pants under my padded shorts. I on the other hand thought this was just normal...

So, am I the weird one? Obviously, I must be at a certain level to be asking about this on here... :o)

Was a reasonable question to ask in 1993!

Assuming we're talking lycra and not baggies, then no, you're not wierd. The whole point of lycra is that it goes against your skin..

Never, ever wear pants when cycling for any reasonable time, you're just asking for trouble.

No pants especially if your in the saddle for a long period of time, i found out the hard way on the TransWales ๐Ÿ˜† then again i did forget my assos cream which was not the greatest thing to leave behind ๐Ÿ˜ณ

On short rides like a trail centre you can get away with wearing them.

If you have to ask, it's probably better to take up another sport.

I'm not going to spend a hundred quid on cycling shorts that are smooth and seam free and then cram a pair of M&S Skungies under them just in case my mother asks! Not unless Marks' spend money time and effort to make every seams flat and smooth and invisible for us cyclists, What was that... they don't?

Hope you broke her.

No kecks with lycra padded shorts under baggies for 30 mile or so XC rides, boxers under baggies or long mtb trousers for trail centres as im never in the seat long enough to warrant padded lycras

Glad to see I'm not the strange one then... it had never occurred to me to wear pants, so having it questioned by someone who has been riding longer than I have kinda got me questioning whether I was a out of step, afterall it's not the usual thing to discuss!

Oh and Mike, she was definitely flagging at the end... I reckon one more hill would have done it... :o)

Well it was pants under the shorts for me today. Got in the shower after the tour of the cornfields and then found I forgot my trousers. Wasn't going to put some very smelly shorts straight back on, neither was I going to walk back to the car in just my pants!

On Ladies: pad-free tights, with a thong.

On me (if ladies are wearing the above): Something 'concealing and restrictive'. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I just wear M+S pants under normal trousers/shorts, personally, for most rides. Only 50 mile + rides do I bother with padded shorts.

Reminds of some muscled chap who took a spinning class. Afterwards my friend Katy was grinning from ear to ear: "I could see everything and it was huge!"

ChiefP - I'm trying to work out if you stick that to your shorts al a 'ladies products' or onto your nethers. Reason I am wondering is that a reviewer reckons they are painless on removal ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

At the risk of SFB perv labelling....... I've seen quite a few lycra clad women lately with an obvious VPL but it's not something you can really mention to a passing cyclist 8)

What a load of rubbish. Whenever I ride it's either boxers under baggies or my 661 armoured lycra shorts under baggies, I've done XC racing in boxers, long distange rides, multi-day rides, a 24km tour de france road climb... Just because it doesn't work for you don't assume it doesn't work for anyone.

Calm down.

Padded lycra is designed to be worn next to the skin. If some people choose not to do this then that's fine.

On Friday at the top of a climb I was greeted with the sight of an older gentleman riding in just his pants, his shorts and t-shirt draped over the handlebars.

I did an offroad triathlon race in a team once, and was confronted with the site of a guy on a mountainbike in speedos, nothing else. Nearly fell off I did.

Not everyone wears padded lycra, is the point. Pants under lycra isn't the best idea but for many people it doesn't apply.
