I overtook a roadie once on my FSer. I was hanging out of my arse going balls out riding the 2 miles home from the train station. We got chatting at a crossing (he just stuck to me). He was pacing for 70 miles 😯
Roadying doesn't appeal to me, but fair play to them they are fit.

Believe me, if I had a more suitable bike I'd have been riding it!

Saw him in the distance and hunted him down.

I hope when you spotted him a little voice in your head said "target acquired" and as you started to reel him in that same voice kept saying "stay on target, stay on target".

Overtaking people is great if it makes you ride faster and enjoy your bikes.

Ignore the whineycockbags on here

Why do roadies have such a bad attitude especially when it comes to being overtaken?

I had a play with one on my DH bike the other day and he was not impressed at me trying to keep up with him.
The look on his face was like I had just insulted his family and he dropped the hammer and sped off. No need whatsoever. If I was on my hard tail with slicks I would have shown him up.

Why do they think it is their god given right not to be overtaken
Of someone else is fitter than them they need I accept it
Why does it even bother them of they get overtaken.

I guess the mind of of roadie will never be understood
They are a different breed!

I got overtaken by a bloke on a road bike the other day. I was half way up a well known local climb on my mtb when he came past and said "alright mate!". Naturally, I did not reply, not because I am rude or anti road cyclists, but because I was not prepared to waste precious oxygen that I needed to prevent unconsciousness overtaking me.

It turned out out the guy was doing intervals, as when I got back to my car I saw him go down, and up, and down, and up, several more times. R E S P E C T, once was enough for my tired old carcass.

I also have a road bike.

I overtook myself riding a road bike the other day while I was out on my mountain bike. I was simultaneously elated and infuriated, which was a bit of a headmash. Then I gave it some beans and dropped myself on the next hill. Sometimes I don't really understand why my head works like it does.

Oh, and I can see both sides of it. When I exclusively rode mountain bikes, I used to occasionally chase roadies down in Exocet mode for the giggles. Its just wrong and funny, but nothing more. Why do people get so triumphal about it?

And now I ride on the road as well, I'm vaguely bemused by mountain bikers who do that. Which doesn't really make sense, except that I'm more aware of just how much faster road bikes are on the road. If I catch someone on a road bike while I'm on a mountain bike these days, I just assume that they're not trying very hard or that they're very, very tired, or that they're simply not very fit.

And as far as roadies not talking much. It's a taciturn sort of culture, lots of barely perceptible nods and twitched eyebrows rather than effusive hugs and waving. Is it really a big deal? And sometimes people are lost in their own thoughts or just very tired.

If you want a real laugh, go road riding some time with a quick-ish woman and watch the reactions of roadie blokes being overtaken by a cheery girl. Endlessly entertaining and a good session if you like people chasing you down.
