With the weather getting worse and my feet already suffering what over shoes do you recommend.

I have winter boots but they don’t cut it when it’s wet or the temp is down around zero so thinking of combining winter boots with a neoprene /waterproof over shoe.
Does anyone do this?
Which ones do you use?

What socks are you wearing? Merino socks plus silk liner socks from ebay keep my feet toasty in winter boots.

I can't personally recommend these, but I'm seeing them plastered all over Facebook at the moment and, damn, they do look cool. Well, cool if you like riding looking like you have wellies on 🙂

don't neglect your ankles - just as the wrists have blood vessels close to the surface and you can cool core temperature by running wrists under a cold tap, so too do ankles. So in winter, if you have cold fingers and toes, make sure your wrists and ankles are warm, no use having the world's best insulated boots if the blood going into them is already cold.

My winter boots are big enough to take a liner plus a thick wool or ski sock and if it's proper cold I also have at times worn a second ski sock with the foot cut out around the lower leg. Then with tights over that. And if it's wet, either overhead or underfoot, so the sock(s) don't act as a wick for wet legs down into the boots, a couple of wraps of cling film around the socks area too before the tights go on.

Yes, getting ready can take longer than the ride sometimes, but it is worth it.

(also - a couple of minutes running with the bike every so often increases blood flow again. Might appear daft why a man with a bike is choosing to run some bits, but if I can stay out longer as a result, I'm happy)

Merino socks/ Woolie Boolie etc
Socks isn’t the problem

It’s usually about 45 minutes in and my feet have gone, not much feeling left.

2-3 Hour rides are pretty tough this time of year...

I was going to post a link to those spatz ones above - Merlin are heavily advertising them.

Expensive, but look interesting.

Otherwise, I've got Endura's which are good off-road, or some BBB ones that are fantastic on the road bike. Nice & stretchy, so go on well & keep my feet dry for a decent length of time.

If the winter boots are bulky, you might want to try some on to make sure they comfortably fit over....

I always recommend the Planet X neoprene ones which are £15 and brilliant.

I use the neoprene ones from planet x when cold and dry - they are not waterproof, so you'll end up with cold toes eventually.
I tend to use thick gore tex socks if it looks to be damp at all - Dex Shell ones in particular. They are really thick....set of think merinos underneath

BBB Heavy Duty do the trick for me on the road.

Off road I tend to stick to waterproof socks with thin merino socks inside.

I like endura stuff but pretty underwhelmed by these. Zip broke after 12 months and little use, and not sure they were that effective. Had far better results using a waterproof sock.

Endura MT500 look good but are a total **** to get on/off with cold fingers.

Altura night vision are good as they completely undo with Velcro and have a "wipe clean" smooth finish that keeps water and mud off.

They are a bit big around the top though, but you might have bigger calves than me. 😉

Dexshell wudhu waterproofsocks are pretty good too.

I tend not to bother with overshoes unless the weather is really wet and cold and I am going to be out for hours, for 99% of my autumn and winter cycling (MTB and road) I just wear sealskins socks and my normal summer shoes. Keeps me perfectly warm and dry.

I suffer with poor circulation so always have cold feet and hands so I didn't expect the above to work but it does.

Another vote for PX neoprene ones. Easy to get on and off, and love that they don't have zips.

These are superb https://www.athleteshop.co.uk/pearl-izumi-elite-softshell-mtb-overshoe-sort
I've tried Gore-tex socks, sealskinz and endura neoprene over shoes and these are so much better it isn't even funny. I've cross-raced in the snow and sleet, done long road rides in the pouring rain and done soggy mtb rides and they just work.
I'm a fan, can you tell?

I have some rubberised Endura ones which to my great surprise are quite good in autumn rain, also rapha neoprene which are predictably pretty good for colder weather. Road only obviously.
For cold off-road, I either wear some NorthWave winter boots (I still go numb in them when its below freezing) or a more walking boot type GoreTex cycling boot with thicker socks.
If your shoes are sized for summer socks, then putting thicker socks on might make it worse as you'll constrict the circulation in your feet, so a bigger shoe for colder conditions might work.
I did get some 45North in CtB's sale just before Easter this year - but its not been cold enough to even think about those just yet.

Having big feet and therefore big shoes, I find even the XL overshoes rip within a very short time so usually buy cheap ones as they are a consumable

I don't recommend them after buying the Endura MT500 ones and experience as above, except they're a massive PITA to get on without even leaving the house. The best thing I did with them was to trim them right down and remove the zip and they just make my Summer SPD shoes useful in Autumn too now. Looks less wierd too. Still don't use them. Save money buy decent boots instead. Oops should have read op 😳

These from Planet X do the job for me. I’ll also wear some toe covers underneath them if it’s really cold.
Prep is also key, tape over any vents in your shoes, good socks and make sure your cleats are properly covered and insulated.
