I'm up for work next month, 21st, 22nd. I'll be missing my Tuesday night ride so I think I'll put the bike in the boot and ride on the Wednesday after we've finished, 4/4:30.

I found a bunch of routes on route on Strava round Clough Wood, Hill Wood, Sheepwalk, some going up to Manners and New Piece.

Anyone got a "Greatest Hits" type ride round those parts? Or even better, does any riding round there on a Wednesday who might be up for showing me around, save me staring at the Garmin? Happy with a quick or quickish pace up and down. Probably needs to be not much later than 4:30 though, as I've got to drive back down south afterwards. Can drive a bit to meet, as I'm in the car anyway.

Bit restrictive and a long way out, so I'm not expecting a firm "yes", but if there's a "maybe" out there, that would be good!

Cheers!

It's potentially pretty claggy up that end of the valley at this time of the year.

For a shortish night ride from Rowsley corner, I would start by heading down the river parallel to the A6, down to Darley Dale. Then back on yourself on the other side of the road through Tinkersley, Copy woods etc and then down through Hells bank plantation (some cheeky trails here down through the woods). This brings you out in Beeley.

Then turn right, up through Calton Lee's, up the field of doom and down through Manners Wood back to Rowsley.

Thanks benman, had a look at the map and get where you mean.

If, by chance, it's been dry for a while (ah, ha, ha, ha!) is the riding better round the Stanton-Lees area?

I live in Darley, I'll not be able to make the ride, but will try and come up with your best route.

I could try and make myself available for this, Wednesdays are about the only weekday evening I can ride these days. That way we can decide based on the weather. Send me an email to lukeellisbradley at gmail dotcom and we'll see if we can sort something out.

You might get Hancock to come out Luke, although maybe a bit early.

I'm working nights, so potentially might be able to squeeze a couple of hours in, but have zero fitness, so wouldn't make an ideal guide

There is some good stuff up on Stanton moor, and it will be much dryer. All cheeky though, and can be hard to build into a longer loop (without some XC across fields or road work)

Ace! Cheers fellas. Luke, I will drop you a note.

Just dug out a photo from the last time I took a bike up with me (lordy, October 2009). I'm expecting much the same, but darker!

The chances are at that time of year it'll be Stanton. It holds up well.
