Will 11 speed XT work with 10speed XT or SLX chainsets? My knees aren't coping with 1x11 so I've decided to go 2x, hopefully without spending too much!

I'm pretty sure you can just buy a granny ring for the cranks you already have. AFAIK, all the Shimano 1x11 cranks are just 2x11 cranks with only the outer ring fitted.

I'm using my old SLX triple cranks with all the old rings taken off and a 34t on the inside of the outer ring arms, works a treat for me 🙂

If the 1x is a double with one ring, you could fit a granny but no mech / shifter and manually change if you really need it. Cheaper and lighter 🙂
