hi, brilliant thread.

I did LA-DC 10 years ago, 3300 miles in 3 months but we spent a few days in national parks, vegas, miami. Shortest day was 20 miles & longest 150 in the desert.

I have a Condor Heritage & carried camping stuff but only had to use it 10 times tops. Stayed in motels, hostals, KOA cabins mainly & ate shed loads of food in truckstops, buffet breakfasts at Dennys.

Loved it & would do it again but maybe a diff route. West to east we mainly had tail winds but a few days we were against gales, so just stayed in the hotel watching wrestling & awful daytime tv.

I have the route which we got from the book by R Winning.

In fact, if anyone is going next year & wants a buddy I think I'd do it. We took 5k dollars each (2 of us) 10 years ago & easily managed it.

Good luck, ride of a lifetime. I clocked 56 mph on the rockies & still remember the beaming smile on my face.

Email in profile if you want the route.

oh dear there's a challenge!!!

Last time we took the southerly route & there were 2 weather windows to get across safely. You have the cold of the rockies so it was c april onwards but the heat of the desert to beat, so summer's out. We started LA april & soon found out Calif is 700 miles wide, so say 10 days to clear 1 state.

I am going to do up the tourer anyway, just needs new wheels & tyres. I got all the other stuff from the last trip.

Email me as I live in Spain now & have a few warm up tours planned, maybe the caminos (norte, 900km) on the mtn bike.

Anyone reading this looking at the caminos get in touch as I'd like to do 1 in sep oct, summers out as it's just too hot & I have to work then. It'll be in refugios & maybe camping so cheap.
