We are just in the process of moving to Treflach near Oswestry after looking at North Shropshire for the last 6 months or so.

Trail running from the door looks good, Nantmawr Quarry will be in walking distance and looks like good running up Crickheath Hill area (Pant)

What I am less sure on is mountain biking. Coming from Yorkshire I’m used to riding from the door without having to touch a road for miles, but it doesn’t look the same around Oswestry/Treflach or am I just missing something?

Does anyone on here ride around the west, south west side of Oswestry?

Thanks

It usually involves a few miles on minor roads here and there. There is the wayfarers route and a few others near Glyn ceiriog and llangynog. I'm not sure on good routes round treflach but there's plenty within easy reach eg the stiperstones. Jon Dixon's guidebook is also quite good and there's a Cheshire bike shop website somewhere with a good list of routes. Failing that, try the bike shop in Oz town.

There are tracks around Llyncys Quarry and also the Racecourse (Candy Woods), there's quite a few old bridleways and drovers roads over the tops towards Llansilin, which can take you over to the Berwyns.  Depends on the riding you want to do, some fast technical Singletrack through the woods or some big rides into the hills.  There some lanes that you can use to interconnect the routes etc, but some of those roads see very few vehicles.

Adam in the Bikeworks should be able to give you some local advice/routes

Thanks for the info so far. What is it like for riding paths/cheeky trails?  Where I’m from. So long as you were courteous no one minded.

Same really, although there is always that person who thinks they need to give you their "veiw of MTB'ers" , but its fairly uncommon.   The racecourse/Candy woods has some really good tracks but so long as you keep away from the main paths and the shoot area its usually OK (been riding there for over 25 years).

My parents live about 6 miles south of there, so if you're ok with it, and you're not too fast, do you fancy riding with some slow technically dubious riders sometime next year?

I'm sure you've asked about three times now and I've said some options three times! (No disrespect here)  Treflach means your right next to llynclys quarry and common which I did say in your last thread!  There is a nice quick cheeky trail from treflach through a disused quarry to the lime kiln pub. I'm willing to show you if you want?

Also the candy woods has a nice few cheeky trails, again I'll can show you aaround. Failing that ride out towards Glyn .
