I recently purchased a 2008 Orange P7 with the slidey 2-bolt replaceable dropouts. They seem to work their way loose every 2-3 rides. I think it may be partly related to hard braking. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Thanks.
Tired threads?
They seem pretty good to me.
A friend of mine who is a mechanic said that he once had the same problem and resolved it through roughening up the the surfaces in contact with one another with sandpaper.
Is this advisable?

Orange used to do a modified drop out to solve this exact problem. Its a bit of a crummy design to be honest I've seen 3 frames of this era and they all suffer. The previous owner would have known about this I am convinced..
This is the LH drop out orange website and this is the RH drop out. The LH one pictured below has a third bolt which goes into either a mudguard mount hole or maybe you have to drill a hole I can't remember, it was 2009..
Make sure it comes with the steel plates that squish in the slot where the drop out slots in as that makes a difference. The extra mount hole will make it last a bit longer than 2-3 rides but in my humble experience the prognosis is not good.
I spent a good few hrs trying to help a GF fix hers, even my self proclaimed "genius" husband could not fix it. Its an aluminium alloy drop out on a steel frame, he reckoned it was a crap design..
I believe that they did a new drop out that used the rack mount hole as a third bolt hole and solved it. Contact Orange, they will tell you which one you need.
They fixed this on later models (from at least 2010, maybe before) by using a 3 bolt design from the start.
There is a magazine review here that identifies the problem from back then. I remember orange "confessing" to accidently using the wrong size bolts on the test bike, draw your own conclusions, but when you google orange p7 pro drop out problem you get a fair few hits...
I had this problem on mine, Orange sent me the new 3 bolt dropouts free, they are also a bit thicker. Fitted them and its never been a problem since. I also made sure the dropouts were fully forward so sliding forward was impossible, made the design redundant but works. I also used a torque wrench to fit them as there is a temptation to overtighten and strip the threads.
It wasn't Oranges finest piece of design but like I say its been fine for five years now. Do it then enjoy your bike.
