Hi,

I am going to get myself an Orange Alpine 160 in the next few months. I prefer to carry my bikes on roof racks on the car. Can you Alpine 160 owners tell me what bike carriers you are using on the roof that keeps this bike nice and secure?

I posted a similar topic a few weeks back but may have been a bit vague for the info I was looking for back.

Thanks

Chris

Do you mean secure as in protecting from thieves, or secure as in "well held"?

If the former, then you're out of luck really. Can't say I'd be happy trusting a bike carrier to keep a bike out of scrotes hands. If the latter, then a trusty Thule 591 will do the trick.

Yea I mean well held.

Ok, I will have a look at that bike carrier, don't want to get the new bike all set up and find out that rack I've currently got doesn't do the job just before I take it out for its first ride.

Thanks

Large 26" 2014 alpine, so nice and long wheelbase with a Thule 591 and some aero bars. Its probably on its max adjustment as the shock mount stops you from gripping the down tube at the correct angle.

No issues tho, and i drive round south wales with it on every week and the road are shocking.

If the main thing you're after is a secure mount the 561 is definitely more stable than the 591 if you don't mind the slight extra faf.

Before I got my van I was using a pendle fork mounted carrier, granted you have to remove the front wheel but i felt it was far more secure than any other roof mounted rack. In mbr this month they have reviewed it and used 2 small straps to secure the front wheel to the frame if space is an issue inside the car.

Oh and I've used the rack with an 18" alpine and a five if that matters!
