I've got a spicy 09 in large but been looking at a 2nd hand 5ive in medium I know I need to ride to know really but putting it out there for some opinions. Spec is pretty much the same on both. So firstly. Are they better, worse, completely different. Secondly what do you all think on sizing I know it's a personal thing really but just what you think.
Cheers
My 2010 spicy is the best bike I have ever had and I have had a lot. Never had a 5 though
My 2008 Large Spicy was actually a tad big and my 2010 Medium Zesty is perfect.
I suggest a sit and play but you may find it suits. Depends on your fit and tastes really.
Would suggest that a Spicy is closer to an Alpine than a Five, though... Are you ready to lose 20mm travel?
Hmmm makes me think been as there's not loads sayin how good their 5ive is. Yeah I know they 140mm but I'm wandering if I'm really needing all 160mm. How tall are you Vincienup
I think my five is good but I have no idea how it compares to a Zesty.
It's probably worth noting that if you do go for a 26" five there'll be no off the shelf spares available as they have been discontinued.
Just to balance the above.
I have a five (not ridden a spicey) and love it. It copes with all I can throw at it around Calderdale and was excellent when I took it to lake Garda this year including a day in the proper alps.
Orange are very good with spare parts, so I really don't think that parts will be an issue for a long time yet.
I also have one for sale in the classifieds, the team Hope one.
(I am only changing it for another, which I guess shows how much I like it!)
Ali , there was a thread on here not long ago in which Orange refused to sell the op a new swingarm(26"). They stated that the one's they had left where for warranty claims only.
5 better on the downs. Zesty better on the ups.
And yes I've ridden both.
It's a spicy I've got tho so 160mm instead of 140mm
An if that's true dirty dog that's really not selling it to me
Still recon the spicy LP would murder the 5 on the ups.
Given the spicy and Zesty have the same front triangles most likely the spicy is a Zesty with a lo get shock stroke (I'm guess here but is the Zesty 50mm stroke and the spicy 57mm?).
I'm not really sure what's different. And to be honest I really like my spicy just fancied a change. Maybe I should listen to the saying and if it's not broke don't fix it
Rich, I'm not trying to sell you one I just want you to have the facts. If I knew they where going to pull the plug on the 26" I wouldn't have bought one myself.
Found the thread see 21st post down (stumpyjumper).

Fives are good but the Alpine's the Spicy equivalent, any reason you're downsizing? I don't think you'll find a massive difference in climbing...
Cheers dirty dog. I think it's made my mind up. An north wind i just fancied a change don't do uplift or go to the alps and thought I could possibly go smaller. But I never feel overbiked. I do ride quite hard and find the hardest stuff I can with big drop offs and stuff. So maybe I do use 160mm
