My Jekyll rear shimano MT80 wheel is now on its 3rd freehub in 6 months. Yes, its working now, but not sure for how long. Madison say there isn't a problem with them, which I don't believe, but I don't trust taking it out and so I am looking for option to change it. I am happy with the rims of the wheels, but the problem is, Shimano only drilled it for 24 spokes. Rather buy a hub and swop it and respoke it, than have to spend a fortune on a pair of wheels. Any ideas on this please? Cheers
For the money I reckon you will be close on the same price for Hub, Spokes and Build as something like the Hope built wheels.
I've got a nukeproof generator rear wheel with a 142 hub in the classifieds

+1 for hope pro EVO laced on stan's flow ex
Tall Martin, good offer, but would have to buy a front as well. I would possibly take it, but not got the cash currently. As for Hopes. I used to be an advocate for Hope, but rear hubs are just something I don't get on with and has actually made me clear out the Hope stuff on most of my bikes now, as I think other bits are better IMO. Mate has said get a Hope after I built his Turner Burner and he bought those to put on, but until a proper seal appears on the freehub than a natty bit of plastic, I will avoid. I have looked at Goldtec BETD, as happy with their hubs, but they are quite pricey.
Why do you need a front to?
Mike, on a 6 month old bike with silver decals on a front wheel and bright yellow on the rear, if I went Nukeproof . Probably to look less like a bitsa bike. That's why wanted a hub, so the rims are all the same and a hub is hidden away. Not sure if all the decals come off, as not tried. Quite happy to build the wheel, just this 24 spoke is the bugger.
The rim is black, just add some elbow grease and wd40 ?
🙂
