So, it seems that headset cup removers come in two sizes: 1-1.125" and 1.25-1.5"

I have one bike with a 1.125" headset. I have another with both 1.125" and 1.5" headset cups. Obviously.

But I'd rather only spring for one headset cup remover.

Anyone successfully removed a 1.125" cup with a larger remover? And by 'successful' I mean *not* taken lumps out of the inside of their headtube.

Somewhere in your shed, garage, bike store, spare bedroom whatever you will have an old static seat post you put away 'just in case'.

Today is that 'case' - use that, it's piss easy, you don't need a fancy tool for it.

Headset remover...

Is that the same as repurposed old steel seatposts?

Might be, mine is a repurposed handlebar instead

Years ago I got excited and bought a 1 1/8th lifeline one to be fancy. I updated it to do tapered this year with a bit of gentle ‘persuasion’, works well, does all sizes now.

I made my own from a bit of 22mm copper pipe.  cut two slots in the end about 6" long, spread the ends, bingo - a universal headset remover.  Tends to buckle tho if you have to hit it too hard
