I realise condition is important...but does anyone have any idea what a very early 90s hardtail Pace square frame black 19" frame, 26" wheel, MTB might be worth please? I'd describe the condition as good. Never used for serious mountain biking. Used for a few years on roads, country park paths, canal towpaths, old rail line paths, Peak District, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, places like that. Basically stored in a shed for most of the last 20 years.
Just looking for a broad range estimate really.
If you've got an F200 or earlier still in one piece, you might get some interest on the retrobike forum.
A few pics on here would help people identify exactly what it is and what it might be worth. For example, if it had bullseye cranks and hubs with the yellow forks stem and magura brakes, I'm sure you'd have no issue getting good money for it.
I'll give you £150 for it...
£151
£3.57, a bag of Seabrook salt and vinegar, a twirl and a can of Dr Pepper.
As good as the frame was when launched, it will really only appeal to older folk who reminisce about such things and have too much money.
You might find somebody who really wants one, has been looking for ages and will give you £300+.
More likely, about £100 I'd say.
Maybe the retro bikes forum would offer more.
photos needed and I'd be interested in it.
Broad range? £0 to £10,000
I know - not helpful. Valuing vintage MTBs is hard, and really even more than usual comes down to what it's worth to someone else. Maybe sentimental reasons, etc. Component group and condition will matter greatly as well - Campy Record OR in mint condition, or falling apart Shimano STX? What forks? Etc etc.
Best bet is probably the Vintage/Retro forum on MTBR.
FWIW - I was looking to sell my Dad's classic Klein MTB, late 80s with lovely XT group, and offers were far less than what it was worth to me for sentimental reasons. So really, hard to know what the value is. In fact, just found my forum post there: https://www.mtbr.com/threads/help-me-id-this-late-1980s-klein-bike-mountain-klein-or-early-pinnacle.1034828/
FWIW2 - I always lusted after those square frame Pace MTBs!
Good luck!

LOL if a mint early RC100 with bulleye cranks in yellow with yellow forks and magura brakes then maybe £2-3000
An RC200 with nitride forks maybe £1000
All depends on age and condition.
Retrobike has a whats it worth thread, or just look at ebay completed items.

Try again, Klein values are through the roof.
As above it depends on the Model. RC100* are worth more than RC200, but it depends on originality and parts. *owner of a RC100 with Bullseye cranks and NOS Suntour XC pro groupset!

Agree. I was going to say north of a grand, unless everything is worn out or it was built with cheap stuff when you got it (which seems unlikely, when starting with a frame that special at the time).
Take a look on eBay, including sold listings. RC200 with Deore LX went for £900.
I saw an old Pace locked up outside the local station once.
I also recognised it as belonging to a mate who had been burgled about 5 years previously!
Bike and original owner were reunited
I would just like to point out that I have retro lust proclivities and 'Readers' Rides' might not have to be being actively ridden to warrant selection...

I scratched that itch a few years ago when I bought and restored a 1992 Breezer Storm. It's lovely to look at, but for the business of going and stopping, it's somewhat lacking.
What happened to Pace? They seem to have total gone off the boil around the time DT Swiss got involved.
I mean look at this, it's light years ahead of its time and wouldn't look massively out of place today.

My 2000 model RC200 with full but not purple bling got pinched in 2007.
It rode ok for it's time but was stupidly flexy. Wouldn't ride it now.
I was referring to the frame only but, some of the comments and referrals above prove that old stuff is valuable if you aim it right.
A few years back I sold a 94 Zaskar LE with half decent period build, including Mavic 217 sunset (I think that was the name) to a good friend for £150. He rides it most summer days to work and back and isn't into bikes, just needed transport.
Maybe I should have held on to it a bit!
Pace are still making some nice bikes (in my biased view - RC529 HT owner) but they are a small outfit. The RC295 looks good too.
Didn't realise but Pace have a shop just down the road from Dalby Forest in Thornton Dale, drove past it about a month back.
Have a look on eBay, there's a few on there at the moment

Did the Carters not sell out the suspension business completely to DT Swiss? Rumour at the time they did very well out of it.
Quite commonly when you sell a business they will make you sign to say you won't start a competing business within X years....
Perhaps that happened?
Maybe they just took a break from designing bikes for a while, they have a bike shop too don't they?
Then they came back to bike design low key with the steel hardtails and now BOOM now they have the carbon RC295 frameset getting rave reviews.
the carbon RC295 frameset
Ooh, hello...
Just looked at Sold items on ebay. Can't do links at work, but all sold this year -
RC200 frame & RC25 forks : £510
RC200 singlespeed complete : £1100
RC200 complete : £600
RC200 complete : £900

£777 🙂
I remember these being tested on the hills above Oxenhope back in the day. They were leagues ahead of anything at the time.
My mate went into that 'shop' in Thorntonledale to be told it wasn't actually a shop, but just where they built up bikes. That's what he told me, and no reason not to believe him.
Anyone know if that's the case?
Just deleted what I was going to say as I can't prove what I was told by people close to the source.
Short version is that Duncan left (for whatever reason) and he was the engineer so they moved away from producing their own stuff to designing and then buying it in. Forks sold to DT, frames no longer made by them, local staff in the workshop gone.
Any 90's frame is desirable and will sell for decent money if in good condition. Retrobike is the place to find out.
How about a Tioga disk drive to go with it.

I sold my 4th RC200 with carbon fork RC30? for £900 in about 2011 ish. I loved those frames but my body was rejecting its ride, fast but stiff. I had a set of the forks fail and dump me in the road, I never fully trusted the Pace stuff again. Shame.
The original Pace RC100 was a bike I coveted all those years ago; I could never have afforded one then, it was hideously expensive. Didn't it also have proprietary fitting Magura hydraulic brakes? The square tubing was totally unique. The last time I saw one, was locked up in central London. Obviously just being used for commuting duties, it was battered and rather sad looking. Shame. They type of bike would be great now, for 'gentler' off road riding though.
