Kaffenback out of production,Cotic x too wee.Surly Pacer,Genesis Equilibrium,Any others in the price bracket,have to be able to get a bike together for "about" the limit so really pretty lugged Italian frames are out.Thanks

kona honky tonk or the kona honky inc if you want discs both tick the box as a affordable steel bike. hth

Samuri, I would rather not! Honk is v pretty,but kit on it is gash.Actually starting to lean towards the Dawes century SE, didn't think I was that old either......

my Genesis Equilibrium is very nice!

some of the components look a little out of place on a £1000 bike (sora chainset), but it's easy to forgive a few cut corners for such a good frame.
