Hi. I was just wondering what the general opinion on this shock is now? I've read a few threads from a few years ago on here. For the most part it seems a decent shock with the odd air leak issue. I wonder if it's worth a try over a cane creek IL.

Had two STX22's:

1st one was on my Smuggler, developed an air leak after the first few rides, had it rebuilt under warranty, was fine for 6 months, then sold the bike. Worked really well on the frame. Picked up a second smuggler a year later, had a cane creek DB IL fitted (latest one), found it to be more tuneable and once setup, was more supple than the STX22 and the same everywhere else/

2nd one was on my 2018 enduro, didn't leak air like the one on the smuggler. It did develop a knocking noise, went back to be repaired, came back still knocking and then the compression damping dissapeared. Wen't back again, still came back knocking, told Specialized they needed to replace the shock with a TTX. TTX has been fine ever since.

IMO, the STX22 is fine on a trail bike, but the enduro is known for eating shocks (the yoke, plus the shock path puts extra bending load on the shock). Would I buy one again? No, its an old design, rockshox have it spot on with the super deluxe.

What bike is it going on?

It would be going on a Cotic Flaremax. Just wondered if it was worth a try as J tech have them on offer.

Had one on an Enduro 29 for a bit, it gave loads of grip and had a super-planted feel. Possibly a bit over damped though, for how I wanted that bike to ride.

For the offer price I'd probably give it a go.

I have a 2016 Enduro with an STX22, mine also developed an air leak and the compression damping went south, I sent the shock off for a warranty inspection and was told that there were no rebuild kits available anywhere - Plush and Specialized sent me a new STX22 in the end FOC, which was welcome. I've only had the replacement a month or so, so I can't comment on longevity. The STX22 isn't hugely tuneable, but it does a reasonable job. I would feel a little short changed if I'd bought one at full RRP (£550), especially with the lack of spares support from Ohlins.

J-Tech Suspension are selling them for £263, at that price it's almost worth buying one as a spare.

My other bike has a Cane Creek IL - it's a pretty good shock and is easy to tune, not to mention that spares are easy to source for it.

My first Ohlins STX22 worked fine till I noticed some scoring on one side of the stanchion after many months, went back for a service and was replaced, no issues with the replacement for the year I rode it before replacing it.
