It's not clever or unique, but I need some tyre advice.

Got a 2.3 High Roller II on the back at the moment. I was happy on it till I put 2 gashes in it and killed it (in through the tread and out through the bead/sidewall). I then also proceeded to puncture the tube that went in.

This tyre has been fine in trail centres and the like, but a trip to the lakes killed it dead and I rarely ever puncture. I'm planning to do a lot more lakes riding as I love a good rocky descent.

Looking for a tough but not to draggy rear 29er tyre, or maybe a tyre combo for the Hightower. I have had Magic Mary/Hans Dampf combo in 27.5 before and found them a bit draggy.

Tempted to give Vee tyres a go. Also had Specialized tyres before (control and grid casings). They were ok for the money but didn't really stand out.

I use a Tough/Fast-rolling WTB Vigilante on the rear. Good combo with a Mary on the front, I'll probably keep em on for summer too. Vigilante is built like a brick shite-house, be good for rocks, I reckon. Not that there are any where I ride! 🙂

I mostly ride in the Lakes and at 14 stone put some stress in tyres. My double down Aggressor got slashed going down Walna Scar today. Tubes and a toothpaste tube sorted it, but it is gonna need some tic to get up running tubeless again.

All tyres break, but the question is how soon? Double downs seem good, also had good experience with schwalbe super gravity.

I'm running the double down DHR 2 on the back and it's been good so far. Paired with a Shorty or DHF on front depending on the season.

Think the HR2 I have is the Exo?

Been tempted by a WTB Vigilante, may give it a go. I'l look into the double down Maxxis too. It's been great until today too 🙁

My Aggressor Double Down will not be running tubeless again. It's fixed well enough for a tube but 8ts days are numbered.
Looking at replacements and it is hard to find anything suitable under £40. You used to be able to by wired dual ply Maxxis for reasonable money and now any tough tyre seems to have magic compounds and special acronyms to justify a salty price.

WTB tough if you want tough tyres under/around 40 quid.Or spesh grid but they are a bit less burly.

Never tried WTB so worth a try. I've got on well with Specialized Grid tyres but then had a spate of failures and went for something beefier.

These any good - it's a good review.

WTB plus a million.

Convict front, Breakout rear (Breakout has been discontinued but there seems to be a few knocking about still).

Tougher than Maxxis - lighter compound is tougher than EXO, tough compound is basically dual ply, better volume, not quite as brilliant as Shorty or DHF front and DHR2 rear for all out grip, but a lot cheaper and hard wearing. Ace tyres.

Anyone tried Vittoria MTB tyres? They have wonder material Graphene in them and look suitably burly.
