Haven't ridden my Mount Vision since July at Grassington, noticed the other day however that the BB appeared to have seized. No problem i thought, whip off the crankset & see what the problem is.
I found a far bigger problem than i anticipated. Drive-side BB cup came clean out still attatched to the crankset axle, both the thread in the BB shell & the BB cup thread are flattened off & don't bind to each other.
I don't think (easily be wrong though) that i cross-threaded them as the threads are still there & i can follow them round. It looks like the bearing seized & the cup started to spin & wrecked the thread, can't see this as the bearings still rotate fairly easily.
Spoke to the nice chaps at Mike Cooksons Cycles & they reckon it might be fixable - fingers crossed!
One thing though, noticed the rear wheel really doesn't like to be spun backwards, will easily rotate forwards though - could this have been a factor?
You can get a threadless BB which screws into itself, for when your threads are wrecked. Have a look on SJS cycles.
Did you try to ride the bike backwards at all?
Don't remember trying to ride it backwards thats for sure ๐
a threadless BB y'say? Might just be the very thing i need!
BETD do a helicoil insert for the BB for &45 when I last looked (per side)

You can also solder and rechase the threads.
The threadless BB thing is quick and cheap. Only ยฃ20 (clicky)
Not sure about longevity, and it limits you to square taper. I put one in an old road bike which doesn't get used a huge amount. Might be worth a shot though.
BETD Saved my heckler in under a week ๐
the betd repair is perfect you can't even tell its a repair.
those threadless bbs are crap dont last long and come undone especially when singlespeeding, even locktight doesn't keep them done up long try velo orange for a better looking one
