[Closed] offset shock hardware - Daft question

Burgtec sell their offset bushes (bushings?) either singly or in pairs. Presumably I can either buy one to fit to one end of my shock, or two and fit to both ends for double the effect? Does the quoted 1 - 1.5 degree head angle change occur for one or two bushings fitted?
Any idea how much the BB is affected by either of the two options?

Guess I could ask Burgtec this question ...

I fitted just 1 to my spesh enduro as only 1 is possible due to the sus design. That is just meant to decrease the HA by 1/2 a degree. It is surprisingly noticeable, I have caught my pedals a couple of times when on paper I didn't expect it to make much difference, mainly through intention at the wrong moment.

I like the extra little bit of slackness in some areas but am considering that maybe the slight lowering of the BB is just a bit too much on this frame design. You will never know for sure on your own bike until you try it, but I would suggest just trying 1 first.

I put a 1 degree slackset on my hardtail and never noticed any negative so I think it can be very dependant on the bike and your riding style.

Mine has just one in it as there's not the frame clearance for 2- the frame clashes. No problems, you get less of an effect obviously. It's pretty small on mine but it all adds up I think.

The exact geo changes depends on the bike and suspension designunfortunately, no easy way to do it but you can simulate it just by compressing the suspension by the same amount

interesting. May be being a bit thick but what exactly was it about the suspension design that stopped you from fitting one at both ends?

got one on my 2013 orange five. (26) it is great on the forks but the drop on the bb is quite noticeable. think ill have to get some 150mm forks to compensate 🙂

They will slacken the seat angle a bit as well.

The spesh fsr suspension only has bushings at 1 end of the shock.

I probably rushed in to fitting it before I had allowed myself to get used to a new bike anyway.

tyres or rear triangle may also hit the mainframe if tolerances are tight.

on my Norco Fluid this was the case if i fitted 2 offset bushings in the long travel setting.

loads of clearance for 2 offset bushings on my trance.

I've got a pair of the Burgtec Ti offset bushings and they creak - a lot. I recommend a set from Offsetshockbushings.com as I've had several pairs from them and they're cheaper and only creaked for a few rides before settling in.

With the Burgtecs it sounds like my bike is going to snap in half for the first hour of every ride until they quieten down.

Personally I really like how my Orange Alpine now rides with 2 offset bushings and a -1 degree Works headset. It does take a little bit of adjusting to get used to the lower BB but didn't take long.

I would like to edit my response. On further investigation it appears the DU bushings are trashed on mine which is accounting for the horrendous creaking/cracking sounds. And not the Burgtec Ti bushings. I still recommend Www.offsetbushings.com if you want to experiment as they're well made and much cheaper than the Burgtec ones at £10 each

zero cool - similar set up to me, I've got a works -1.5 headset and one offset bush in. Nosed the saddle down to compensate for the seat tube angle change and loving it. With the second bush in the back of the shock it was less than a mm clear of the weld on the swingarm and if the bush rotated a bit it touched so once the Angleset went in I took one bush out. I thought the Angleset may have been one step too far but I love it, 160mm dh bike that somehow still climbs ok!

Zero - thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear you're happy with the sets you've had from us!

Another recommend for offsetbushings.com. I could only fit one because I have a DRCV shock so less noticeable but it all helps.

On above recommendations I ordered a set from offsetbushings. Ordered wrong size though - dammit! Returned and paying for re-machining.
