I am thining about changing phones and would like to go to an andriod HTC but currently stuck with a windows htc hd2 as i use memory map.

Is there any application out there that will let me look at os maps offline that don't require me to take a photo of the map and save it befor hand. If i knew when and where I was going to get lost i wouldn't be lost!

I use an app Big Planet Tracks on the phone along with Mobile Atlas Creator on the PC to download the maps from Multimap...

It works rather well...

I have been using the Maverick app:

http://www.codesector.com/maverick.php

...and Mobile Atlas Creator to grab the OS map tiles for it:
http://mobac.dnsalias.org/

You need the paid version of Maverick (€4.95), the free one doesn't support the Multimap OS maps you need.

Unfortunately Maverick chews up battery life on my HTC Desire like a mad thing if GPS is switched on, so if I'm out for much more than three hours the phone will die. It's still pretty handy to have with you for mapping purposes though (I live on the edge of three 1:50,000 OS sheets, and it's annoying carting all of those around for big rides).

I'm going to take a look at that Big Planet Tracks app, looks interesting, thanks for that funkynick.

I just use MyTracks for logging my route, and that doesn't seem to eat up much battery life at all... I've had it logging for about 7 hours before and there was about 25% battery left...

I then just start and stop the OS mapping software as and when I need it.

Oblique

Yes its not too bad - You may have to update the radio software (read all the instructions) but it shouldn't bust the Winmo then just copy the build onto the SD and run from the card 🙂

It was pretty easy but took an hour or so - running sweetly on my HD2 as we speak 🙂

I've got a good solution for this using MOBAC latest alpha and OruxMaps - and it's free as well.

I'll write it up tonight if no easier methods appear (there are a couple of gotchas to avoid when creating the map tiles)

TBH i kinda like the look of viewranger. At £20 for all the maps for north yorkshire mores, dales and the peaks i think that is quite cheap.

Anquet are currently working on an Android solution. That would mean the whole UK at 1:50k for around £100.

I wish they'd hurry up though!

Memory Map are supposed to be as well. No indication of timelines though. See the MM support forum and add your name to those clamoring for an android port...
