I have the Lizzard (velcro, not SBS) but also the Vertigo (I think?) SBS road shoe. I hunted high and low for wider shoes, having use Pearl Izumi for years, as my feet got wider a couple of years ago and neither Pearl, nor anything else I tried worked. Spesh, Shimano, Sidi - all way too narrow.
The Northwave shoes made a real difference to how I enjoyed my cycling. It's as simple as that.
The SBS is a nice feature - it allows micro adjustment as you're riding along and the straps on the road shoe seem comfortably positioned. I had the road shoes first and probably should have piked out the extra for the mountain ones. I now also have the Celsius goretex boots and they're ace too (though I went up a Euro size in them). Ah - actually - the Lizzards are blinking cold shoes - and even with an Endura neoprene MT500 overshoes on, are a touch nippy. Great in the summer though.
I do use Spesh BG footbeds in mine - the Northwave ones are fine, but nothing spectacular.
HTH.
