Hi all,
I'm planning to buy a lightweight wheelset for my '09 Anthem X and have recently been looking at a ZTR build from Just Riding Along, something like:
ZTR hubs
Crest or Alpine rims
DT Supercomps
But I really can't find much info on the hubs, does anybody have any experience of them? Are they a better option than the Hope Pro 3?
Cheers
Get CX Rays, they're stronger, lighter and sexier!
have just picked up a set of stans 355's on pro 3's and they are around 1500grams if it helps...
Sorry to intervene in your thread llamafarmer, Just Got My First Inbred (congrats btw 😉 ) do you know where in the UK I can buy Sapim CX Rays?
has anyone seen the notubes tyres?? Look nice but flipping heck they are expensive!!

Too expensive and I don't want silver 😉

Cheers CB, they're definitely on the list, but I also like the look of the new Crest and Alpine rims, which Hope aren't doing yet....
Good question. I was looking at them earlier as their JRA's 'instock' wheelsets in particular look like great value.
All I've found about the hubs though is stuff from US sites - a few saying they're great, a few saying they've bust the rear hub, so not massively helpful but makes me a bit wary.
They do build up very light though and for a good price. I'd definitely be interested to hear if anyone has tried them...?
Well in 2-3 weeks they will be on my Anthem X 🙂 I will make a point of doing a little write up of what I think of them. Will be going tubeless at the same time so will see how it goes.
I got some ZTR hubs/355's with DT spokes built for my 29er.
Impressive, very light very strong and with new QR15 adaptor they are perfect on my Tallboy.

I'll keep an eye out for that vrapan, thanks - especially as you're also putting them on an Anthem 😀
I got some ZTR hubs on Podium MMX rims for my SWorks hardtail.I havent rode in anger yet but first thoughts are they are very good. I will let you know if they only last one race. But at £444 for a 1250 gram wheelset it is as good as it gets.
TI have ZTR Hubs with Arch rims, DT Comp spokes on my Scandal 29er. They are very smooth, noticably smoother bearings than the Pro II's on my 575. The pair weigh 1875g which I'm pleased with for 29er's could have got lighter with 355's but I wanted a touch more strength. To be fair I have only had them a month and the weather has limited riding so time will tell, but so far, very pleased
Ah good stuff to hear from you guys who have bought them. They look great so it'll definitely be good to see how they hold up over time (and a bit of mud). I'll look forward to the reports!
Ollie T - that's especially interesting as that's one of the wheelsets I'm looking at if I race next year (and sell my Five to fund it!) If you don't mind me asking - how heavy are you and what tyre and pressure are you finding it good to run on the MMXs?
My other options would be American Classics (sooo expensive) or Hope pro 3s (not as light and with 24h hub, can't necessarily upgrade rims)
Cheers.
Are you building yourself MM or getting JRA to do so? I have a cheaper source of American Classic if you're building yourself!
The ZTR Podiums look good, I know a number of people who've been (ab)using the ZTR Race for a couple of years, and don't know anyone who's managed to bend one. The Podium is meant to be a fair bit tougher.
njee - I don't know yet as I'm thinking forward a fair bit! (Classic can't ride, so will think/look at bikes instead! Epsecially as the reality at the moment is selling bike stuff rather than buying!)
Still, I was thinking of getting JRA to do it, but I've got a friend who's a superb wheel builder so I could possibly persuade him to build them for me if it could be done cheaper. Would you be so kind as to email me your cheaper source of American Classic hubs?
Good news about the Podiums too, they look awesome at that weight. Not that I'm too worried about bending rims (I should only be about 45-48kgs when it comes to trining/racing time), but still it's good to hear they're up to some abuse. (My only worry about the Stans hubs would be whether they'd be up to lots of abuse)
I'm about 80kg and think i might go for some crests on ztr hubs with supercomps to race, should be under 1500g too. Crests are wider and only 10 or so grams heavier each than the alpines so dont seem to be missing out on much.
i'm assuming the crests will be stronger than the alpines??
Can you get the powder coat white NoTubes rims in the UK?

JRA has some models in stock in white.
Was wondering how the white ones hold up to abuse, do you think they will look tattier faster than black ones?
A bit late, but to add my two cents - I have the 355s on Hope Pro 2s. I don't think it's the lightest wheelset (on it own - see next) out there, compared to factory builds from the "big names", but if you are going to use the Stans NoTubes solution it's best. You can run tubeless on a regular tire, saving the additional weight of a UST tire, and through various tire combinations I've only had one instance of burping on the 355's - with Panaracers.
