I've been running ghetto tubeless wheels for a few years now and Ive never used specific Tubeless or Tubeless Ready tyres. I'm about to aquire a pair of tubeless wheels (819's) and was wondering if there would be any problems running regular tyres, with sealant, as part of a tubless system.

I was going to put a pair on Montain Kings (protection) to start with.

Some tyres yes, some no. All depends on how tight the beads are.

I like the Bontrager "Tubeless Ready" tyres as these have the tight beads of a UST tyre, without the heavyweight carcass, and are designed to be used with a sealant.

Hi I run crossmax tubeless rims with a fair variety of tyres. Started off with proper tubeless MAxxis high rollers. But i had a pair of very light WTB "summer tyres" hanging up in the garage (not tubeless). Added some sealer and blew them up with the valve cores removed to inflate faster from a proper compressor, as no luck with the track pump. Once I got them to blow onto the rim they were fine. Ran them all summer, think i had to add a little air to the front a couple of times but they were really good. Used them on road trip to Scotland on some fairly rocky terain and no probs. Since then I have used a few different tyres mostly standard non tubeless. The only prob seems to be the inital seating onto the rim, once you get them on there fine. good luck.

Always just run standard tyres tubeless, on my Flows and my Traversees. Always worked a charm so far. I guess it depends on your trails, mainly soft stuff up here, little flint etc so sidewalls don't generally need to be tough.

I use 819's. I've tried loads of tyres (well a few anyway!) and have settled on non-tubeless singleply maxxis minions (2.5, super tacky) up front. The back still isn't sorted yet! I've been running a 2.25 advantage but with a tube at the moment as I couldn't get it to seal and don't think the sidewalls look strong enough. Mates (who ride well) are running 2.25 advantage and 2.25 larsen's out back, non-tubeless tyres but run tubeless on 819's with sealant and don't have any problems.

Here's a list of what i've tried and what I thought.
