Anyone using the newer Crossmax wheels? Spotted a bargain set but wary of proprietary spokes etc and rims with 24 holes. Are they strong enough for xc/trail use and reliable?

Thanks in advance

If the newer ones are anything like mine, they don't use proprietary spokes and nipples anymore. Got them on a couple bikes, can't fault them really. Also have Ksyriums on my commuter, so bit of a fanboi.

Sounds promising! It's these I am looking at - link

They are claimed 1770g, brass nipples, the drive ring can be upgraded to 40t for £30 and I can get them in non boost. I would rather Dt Swiss xm421 on 350 hubs but the Mavic's can be had for a lot less. I dont actually get to ride the mtb that often so I am tempted by them now especially fi standard spokes.

i think thats what I have. I paid ~270 for the pair from cyclestore. + a set of cushcore xc inserts.

i'm not delicate or light, nor is dartmoor granite and they seem to be holding up.

I’m using them, done an enduro + everyday trail / xc with plenty of jumps. They’ve held up really well. If you’re 85kg+ with 15kg+ bike + gear and you land jumps heavy maybe not so good.

Had a set for a couple of years, coped with everything including Lakes rocks without any complaints or needing truing.

@sillysilly no enduro for me but reassuring to hear!

All sounds good, thanks everyone. It's a no brainer really just wary of 24h rims replacements if ever needed and Dt Swiss are definitely the best option for long term. Appreciate the feedback though and have a day or two before I have to make a decision.
