Just had a Shimano Facebook post about a new mechanical XT - hurrah!

 

The right set-up for any ride, SHIMANO's new DEORE XT mechanical drivetrain delivers refined shifter and RD updates, building on the heritage of the original MTB group.

So new Deore group set announced yesterday and XT group set today, but no mention of SLX.

New Deore comes in 6xxx and 7xxx flavours, so does that mean SLX is no more?

I think they've been trying to retire SLX or a while. Haven't there been several "Deore" groupsets since SLX was last changed... before this week's new versions?

what's the deal with no clutch on these new models? good enough chain retention without so not worth the weight/maintenance?

I like the idea of clutchless because suspension works better without in a lot of cases and from reviews chain retention is fine but I have read a lot of reviews complaining about chain slap noise which is a bit of a downer.
