I've have a Giant Trance X5 which came with Alex DP17 wheels. I'm thinking of putting these wheels on my hardtail and upgrading them. My riding ranges from XC to light DH. I want a light, strong set of wheels which won't cost me an arm and a leg. Just wondering if there's any good deals out there? Not sure what my budget is yet. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.
Hope Hoops on 355s if you want light or Flows if you want tough!
Depends on budget of course... You could spend £500 or more on some lightweight XC race wheels, but suspect that might be a bit steep...
For less than £250 (if you shop around), do as njee20 says...
If that's still too steep, look at something like a pair of Shimano XT Disc hubs built onto Maivc 717's or 719's for under £150 mail order.
Odly enough I suspect cheaper may be better. Spend £500+ on a set and they will be great for either the XC or 'light DH' bit of your requirement, but rubbish at the other bit. £300 should get a very good all round set, although not as good at one type of riding as the more expensive set, but less specific.
Ok thanks for your help. I'll look at all those options.
I got 2 wheelsets depending on what I want to ride - DT5.1D on ProII Std for FR/heavy use and ZTR 355 on Pro II SP for XC/trail centres - seems to work very well - saves having 2 FS bikes 🙂 Got the latter for about £240 on winstanleys 🙂
