Hi
I was fitting the gears on my new build and have the rear gears running perfectly.
When i went to sort the front out i hit a problem, i fitted the cable and checked the chain allignment against the mech everything seemed ok, I fiddled with the L and H screws to try and get a smoother action and now when it's in the front large cog and i try and shift down the cable goes slack and the mech doesn't move, e.g. return to the clamp. it seems stuck and i have to push it really hard to get it to pop back to the clamp?
Any idea's?
im stumped on this one?
more tension
Sounds like you've over tightened the adjustment screws. Unscrew the one that adjusts the inward movement. Can't remember off hand which one it is. I think its the L one. My slx needed a lot of adjustment at first, but once its set thats you.
Hope this helps.
The screw for the lower limit (small chainring) is normally the one nearest the frame. Wind it right out. Also make sure the cable is routed correctlt and isnt jamming on the mech itself.

I had exactly the same problem this week fitting a new SLX front mech. I had to really pull hard on the cable to get it to shift to the outer chainring...and then it stuck there! A quick whack with the adjustable hammer and it popped back to the middle ring. Liberal squirts of WD40 on the mech pivot points and a few movements in and out and it all works perfectly. Tested yesterday in Delamere and today on the back lanes and it's fine. Good luck.
my bolt to keep the cable in had twisted and was getting stuck behind the clamp, Turned it back and it works fine now. Found a good shimano techdog guide that helped with the fine tuning.
Cheers for the help guys.
