As I'm in the market to upgrade, but being a bit of a closet Roadie not sure on whats really what tbh.

Currently running Planet X model B's, but the nipples have just started to pull through the rim, hence the upgrade.

Seen on various sites the following which seem to fit the bill but would like real world opinions and/or advice

Fulcrum 5 2012
Shimano RS30
Mavic Aksium
Planet x AL30
Shimano Ultegra 6700 - bit over budget but is it that big a step in tech etc...?

Not sourced the cheapest retailer but you get the idea what I'm looking at

Must be 10spd, Shimamo freehub and black. Ideally in stock and around £140 - £200

Cheers
Carl

The brake rub on the AL30s that came with my new PX is quite annoying, it doesn't take a lot for them to flex

just noticed these road wheels on the For Sale forum (nothing to do with me):

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mavic-open-pro-hope-hoops-pro3-road-wheels-mint-1

I was thinking of these, then bought Kysriums and found I had to drop oil all over them to stop the spokes pinging...

How much do you weigh jota180?
Deep section rim = stiff.
20 spoke radial front = can be flexy for bigger riders.

I know little about todays 'factory built' wheels, im sure they are very good but id still plump for best hubs i could afford built onto mavic open-pro's. Im sure they wont be as light but they have always done me well in the past and i see enough people having problems with trying to get specific parts to steer me away (note: even PX dont have stock of spare freehubs for their wheels).

Can only comment on the Mavic Aksium Race and after 9 months of use they are still spinning smoothly with no re-tensioning needed.
Talking to an ex pro mechanic on a recent trip to the Alps he said Mavic would always be his first choice when looking for new wheels.

Can't fault my Fulcrum racing 5 very stiff and smooth think there 2010 versions, my rear wheel needs some work so ordered some spokes so i can get it sorted.

About the same as me. I'll get a pair and take them out. I've never actually ridden any :-/

Yup, at 11 stone I found the planet x's flexy when climbing out of the saddle.

OP - a bit of a guess, but A23s, low spokes on the front, generic hub rear (105?) and a cheap light thing from ebay on the front.

I did the above w/stans alphas, came out just over 1500gm, £250, the A23s would add only 100gm and save £80 odd? Self-built btw. Tubeless too.

Thanks for all the advice and opinions.

I've gone for the Mavic Open Pro's off the classifieds. 🙂
