See, how can this be offered at "40% off" when it's never been on sale at the supposed RRP?http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FROORAN27/on-one-rango-275-plus-or-29er-carbon-mountain-bike-frame
Is that not against the law?
In fairness I think it was quietly added to the website before Christmas for about the shown "RRP"...
Not sure what stock levels were given at the time...
I was looking at that Rango recently and saw that you can get the very same frame from China with forks from another seller. there are two or three suppliers that seem to copy each other. One was marketed by a Chinese brand and the person behind it may be called Richard or a similar western name but basically it was cheaper to import it with the fork than it was was to get from on one without the fork and you don't end up with the on one logo on the frame either
Yup, the Rango frame was on sale for a fair while for a frankly hilarious £999.
I don't care how heavy they are, I want them!
I think nextie make them, they certainly did fat bike wheels. I wonder if they can bond any rim to a tri-spoke?
130mm rear / 160mm front is a bold move. Certainly wouldn't be for me.
130mm rear / 160mm front is a bold move.
Even bolder is not clearly stating whether it has 130 or 140mm travel, the listing for the full bike lists both.
The colour and the price put me off more than the travel diff.
I do like the Ti45650b though. Could be a bike for life that.

We all know that's not the "real" price.
Was really keen for a Ti45650b (discounted of course) until I saw that the 20" large has a reach of 407mm. Oh dear.

Good spot.
And putting "xxx" for the reach and stack figures. It's like a lucky dip.

The colour won't change but the price certainly will.

I saw that, can only assume they got a batch of cheap top tubes from 10 years ago.
The colour won't change but the price certainly will.
not enough for me to buy a bike from Planet X I don't think
I don't think the price will change until March. I got an email the other week stating they would not change prices in Feb 'so you can buy with confidence'. Probably more due to trading standards, something has to be on sale for x time to allow it to be used as the 'was' price. The prices will change soon enough.
This seems like a complete and utter bargain. What I am I missing?

Is it only available in small and grey?
"I was looking at that Rango recently and saw that you can get the very same frame from China with forks from another seller."
To be fair they are not identical, geometry is slightly different (for all On-One's geometry can be trusted), but the Rango has a much more sensible 31.6 seat post size than the 27.2 on the chiner.
I'd actually be quite tempted by one if they didn't muck their pricing around so much, you could be sure of geometry and when they say they spec a certain group set that it actually came with that proper group set.
Those China Rango's aren't, plain and simple. There's several revisions worth of development in that frame that's all us. Sure you can buy one that looks similar, though not in any sense of the word identical, same as you can with chinarellos. The geometry, layup, frame specs another bits and bobs are all us.
Re designers we work with a few well known contractors and we do some dev in house.
I agree with you about the S36, it's fugly, but it rides remarkably well and does what it says on the tin.
I'll edit the Titus content, it is 130mm rear on both bikes. The Gravity Trail version does actually eat stuff up, if you ride front weighted its a really capable bike.

STW doing PX's proof reading again. 😆
They should just post any new content here first for proof reading and give some freebies to STW to give away in return.
Revelation on a plus size as well?
Anyone know about these?
Looking for something lighter than the typical Yari or Pike.

Ti 29er looks great until you look at ett and reach - why so short?
Like the look of the 45650b Ti very much. The single thing putting off very serious enquiry is On One's unpredictable pricing model.

Goes into my basket as large grey for £803 so just a[s]nother[/s] typo in the advert...

Not sure it's a huge bargain TBF as the post goes for less than £200 and forks are bottom of the range Sektors leaving £400ish for the frame?
I think if your in the market for that type of bike and your comparing it against what else is out there then its decent value. If you look at it as though you can build it up for what 13-1500 then you cant buy much better off the shelf
Clink, it's more XC geometry than trail, figure it with a 70/80mm stem. It's only 10mm off a pure race XC in reach.
Ben_h, looking like RRP for the frame is 999, we'll probably do a launch date offer at 899 for the first ten frames. The frames aren't up on their own yet.

That would seem to make sense however a Trek Superfly is a xc bike and it has much longer reach and ett...
Yes but Trek were the company that drove 29ers to the masses and have put huge effort into developing great bikes. On-one haven't and you get what you paid for.
I'm no on one apologist but hard to argue at that codeine deal for £800 surely? Yes only sektors but don't think you'd see change on them for less than £300, reverb similarly is at least £200 leaving frame and shock for £300? I'd be tempted if I was in the market.

That's a bit harsh. O-O have been doing 29ers a very long time. They were probably one of the first?
It's just that like most of their bikes the Fireline which was one thought slack for a 29er at a time when 120mm 29er forks were a rarity, is now sort of average.
TBH they should cut their losses on some lines and update the whole range, go back to smaller batches of frames that people really want. Part of what made them good as a small company was being able to get a 29er frame built and on sale long before they caught on. But they've not inovated in years.
Bikes like the fireline really deserve to be the default answer to the perennial "what hardtail" question, but it's just not kept up with the competition. 2deg off the HA, a degree on the SA, and 50mm on the top tube (hey, maybe even plus tyres) and I bet you'd not be able to move for them at trail centers.

I'd imagine On-One were doing 29ers long before they appeared on Treks radar.

To the masses?
I think the point is xc 29er geo evolved, which Trek were at the forefront of. On one seem to be doing trying to do too many things; perhaps they be better getting back to basics.
I honestly am not sticking up for planet x , as i've first hand experience of their sales and quality control, But I gotta say all you people bitching about the bikes, come on now. If you've ridden them fair enough but I bet you haven't. I purchased a 456evo11 a couple of years ago. Had a couple of issues, easily sorted but never should of happened.put a set of lyrik rc2l,with XT drive train and brakes, good wheels and tyres still got it now. It's a really good bike. Was looking for a softtail for a while, got put off buying used, thought about a new complete bike but bikes I was looking at were fitted with sram which I didn't want. Didn't want another ON ONE after the probs with quality control and customer services, but came across Codeine 650b frame, shock fork kit for £750, After talking to planet x sales and stipulating certain things I purchased one, then it got extremely stressful, already was a bit nervous as hardly any reviews ,more chat on forums, saying can't climb, but someone jumped in an said best climbing bike he had . Plus planet x pissing me about, and their extremely inaccurate online site stock, ie I counted all codeine 650b bikes and frames in all colours and sizes, ended up with a figure of more than 300 with marzocchi shocks , but they couldn't put one on my frame! I wasn't impressed in the least, but in end I got a monarch rc3 and the forks were the 2016 model fit4 so a good deal.I fitted xt drive train, xt785 brakes by choice, very good wheelsets and tyres. The time came , honestly the bike climbs so well, better than i dared to hope for, as good as my hardtail which climbs really . I'm talking about out of seat with no Bob, and does downhill like a Downhill bike. It made up for all the stress . So while I'm not a big fan of planet x,On One know how to build a bike, and if you catch them at the right time you can get a really good deal. So when you start reading reviews of on one bikes riding crap and falling apart then slag them off , but til then give them a chance. Be fair.

Not arguing but the post can be had for less than £200 and the forks are the more basic version of the basic ones I had and I can't imagine would sell for more than £200ish. Leaves £400 for an old frame with outdated geometry and features. Not a bad deal but also no real bargain.
til then give them a chance. Be fair.
Nope,
Same as mb51, bought a 456-evo a few years ago now, liked the geo....an evolution of the Summer Season, ordered the complete bike online and waited.
2 days later someone phoned and discussed the build with me, it wasn't going to be exactly as per the ad but to their credit they were willing to put branded stuff on instead of their own On-One bars, stem etc....more than happy with that, also when the bike arrived it had the coil spring forks as opposed to air spring ones the ad stated....again this may have been a problem for some but with coil spring trail forks becoming rarer than hens teeth (and in my opinion better) I was more than pleased!
The bike then arrived several days later with SRAM X9 hubs too even though the ad stated unbranded or in house (can't remember!?)...bonus, it rode great, easily the best HT I've owned but I stupidly bought into the whole "i need a bigger seat tube for a dropper" and "the head tube doesn't take a tapered fork" nonsense and sold it to get a frame with bigger seat and head tubes.
Needless to say none of the HT frames I've had since have ridden as well due to their ridiculous over built designs.
I'm a fan as you can tell, if I was paying 3k for a bike I'd expect more but On-One are cheap for a reason, still desperate to try the new Dee Dar HT but funds are limited after Christmas at the moment!
Trek did 29ers before any other mass market brand under the GF brand in 2001.
what the hell have I been riding around on for the last 8 years
I asked myself a similar question when I saw the picture.
But with a different emphasis 😉
hardy hardy hah!
Im surprised clink didnt pick up on that too, since he had one of the first.
mb51 - MemberBut I gotta say all you people bitching about the bikes, come on now. If you've ridden them fair enough but I bet you haven't.
You'd bet wrong. TBH I've ranted enough on here about how mine fell to bits and they lied their way out of a warranty claim, but a lot of us already gave them a chance and learned the hard way.

True, and the first genesis bikes came out when I was still in school, long before the 29ers.
But equally, On-One were pushing exactly the same long TT/short stem/steep ST agenda in the UK with the original Inbreds (and the 29ers when they arrived had the correct fork offset unlike most other brands).
Even the 456, while not the first hardcore hardtail, was at the time longer and slacker than most. I remember Brant saying the geometry was so wierd that they actually lied on the tables to make it seem less out-there (particularly the chainstays IIRC).
So historically at least it's unfair to say they weren't at the sharp end of things. They've just gone off the boil a bit, or rather the whole market has got bigger so the big guys like Trek/Spesh/Giant/Cannondale can justify production runs of niche bikes.
Im surprised clink didnt pick up on that too, since he had one of the first.
Still regret selling it.

Diamondback produced their "Overdrive" range back in 1992:
Using 622 rims and 45c (1.8") panaracer smokes.
Diamondback called it their "super cross series" but these were basically what we would recognise as 29er MTBs today...
Almost a decade before GF "revolutionised" MTB wheels...
I'm sure someone else will dig out an even earlier example...
I absolutely loved my 456ti, better than the ti kinesis I had, just wish they would do a 29er version
