I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to 2.... either the Hope R4 or the Exposure MaXx-D. Either is bright enough but I'm debating whether all the gadgetry and internal battery of the Exposure is worth the extra? Opinions of them both welcome....

For internal battery alone, yes!

Had a Hope, now have Exposure (Toro). Much nicer having an internal battery.

Just about to send my Hope R4+ back for another new cable. They seem to break every 18 months.

I’d take the Exposure. Light units with internal batteries are far more convenient and you don’t have connectors / wires breaking to worry about.

Can I sneak in here with another Exposure Q? I like the sound of the auto-sensing brightness (that I think Exposure call Reflex+?) but in a helmet light.

I found a couple of articles that say the Diablo SYNC Mk2 (or mk12 if its a typo on the USE website...cant work it out) has the auto-sensing brightness but I can't see anything to confirm this either on USE's own website or on retailer websites.

I went Maxx-D over Hope R4 only because of the battery pack, I really dislike strapping a battery pack to my frame and then trying to get the cable taught so it doesnt catch on stuff or bounce off the frame all night making an awful noise.

Picked up Maxx D and Diablo 2 weeks ago and have 2 rides on them at night and couldnt be happier with the pricey purchase

Another +1 for Exposure, due to the battery and customer service. My 10 year old Maxx D is no longer charging so I've just replaced it with a Race I found in a sale, and picked up a Joystick last year in the Halfords sale.

Maxx D gives you internal battery, longer battery life with super accurate display showing burn time remaining, reflex feature and also smart port charging if you want to power a phone/gps on long rides.

I know you say you have narrowed it down to these two, but the exposure toro is still brighter than the R4 and will save you some money

As a hope owner, i'd agree with the above and go for the Exposure, predominately based on the hope's external battery pack and the inconvenience of it.
