[#1812627]

I'm looking at getting a new helmet and would quite like one that looks ok on both my mtb and road bike, so is it either best to get an xc helmet like a bell sweep or a giro athlon and take the peak off when on the road bike or just to get a road helmet (like a giro atmos) and ride peakless on my mtb? Or just suck it up and buy two new helmets.

Maybe it's not still available, but I've got a Bell Sweep XC - removeable peak. Basically cost's a tenner more than one without. I did find, mind, that Bell helmets fit, and Giro's don't despite being made by the same company according to my Lbs.

Can you not make your own mind up?
Why not just do what you want to?

i wish i had the spare cash at the moment to buy two new helmets because i couldn't cope with risking a potential peak faux pas.

No peak at all times. Use a cotton roadie cap to keep rain / other shit out of eyes if you need, works much better, but does not looks as narcore.

No peak, they achieve nothing. Specialized 2D for me with no peak.

My peak came off. I miss it dearly, it took off just enough low sun glare.

Had a roadie helmet (Giro Pneumo) and wore a roadie cap under it, new version has a removable peak so best of both worlds?

replaced it with an Athlon and it has little plugs to cover the holes where the peak goes.

Although TBH I went out on my road bike the other day and just pushed the visor up, and it was fine, didn't block my vision on the drops.

Removable peak, the athlon is identical to one of the giro roadie helmets (the name escapes me...), 'cept its £10 more expensive and has a peak.

Buy an athlon 😛

Had three Sweeps/Sweep XCs in a row and normally don't bother putting the peak on and off and just leave it off most of the times, they have no function really, and do you really look so much cooler with a peak?

I replaced my Giro E2 with a Bell Volt, & find the peak doesn't go down far enough to keep the sun out of my eyes.

And so with a single post ap caused the whole stw forum community to stop, question the whole meaning of their life and find it pointless and without hope. And off they all stumbled into eternal darkness never to waste their or anyone else's time with their stupid questions and even more stupid answers. And the last words heard faintly from the edge were "what tyres for the eternal darkness?"

After the picture in this post, where a peak saved my wife from cuts and scratches, I'll always go for a peak!
