My rear Hunt Four Seasons wheel is rapidly becoming unusable ( cracks round spoke holes etc ) . Front seems ok so any suggestions for a rear gravel wheel that won't break the bank but is still reasonably tough?
Worth sending a picture to Hunt and seeing what they say? How long have you had it?
Seven years old so probably beyond warranty.
I just don’t think you can make a wheel
out of gravel.
re-rim?
What sizes and standards are you looking for. Rims, hub and cassette etc
There are probably some Hope Pro 5 wheels on Ebay
My Ridley came with Shimano WH RS-171, which I found a very comfortable ride with lots of spokes but pretty heavy. I’ve swapped them for some Hunt carbons, which are much lighter but no more comfy. Can be had for under £150 new. You can have my sub 1000 mile pair for a lot less. 12x142, 12x100, 700c.
I built my gravel wheels from hope pro2 and some ebay carbon rims.
If your hub is fine, why not just get a replacement rim from hunt and build it or have a shop build it for you?
7 years seems an excellent lifespan for any regularly used rim.
Are you on QR or bolt-through?
If QR, I have some Hope/Stans Crest wheels I was gonna sell.
Bolt through. I think I am going to go down cynic-al's route. The hub is fine, it's never even needed bearings in seven years, so I think I'll get a new rim built on. Not Hunt, too much like cheese.
