Went climbing there in the mid 1980s. Absolutely stunning but after 300 miles of bright yellow, orange and red trees you do get blase about it.

Minor road surfaces can be rough because of the annual temperature extremes (+28C to -13C where we holidayed). The sudden change in temperature from summer to autumn holds the nice colours.
Temperature is in the low/mid-teens during the day in October, ideal for cycling

On my way to a canoeing trip in Canada a couple of years ago I passed by and vowed that I must go there in Autumn sometime. Stunning.

Went to New England this October, for the second time. It's one of the most beautiful places at that time of year imo. Managed a walk up Mt Washington, clear blue skies and no wind, remarkable for a place considered to have the worst weather in the world. Convinced my mrs to try mountain biking in a place called Stowe and she loved it
